Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the Acute Medical Unit in a ward clerk role. The Acute Medical Unit is linked to the Emergency Department and General Practice (GP) services and is based at the RD&E main hospital site. Our admin team is made up of an Admin Services Manager, Admin Line Manager, and a Team Leader and there are 18 members of our friendly dedicated admin staff. In addition we have a team of Ward Consultants and Doctors as well as Ward Matrons and Nursing staff. The Acute Medical Unit deals with approximately 21,000 admissions per year and is an exciting and stimulating place to work. You will deal with referrals from the Emergency Department and also from GP's, admitting patients onto the ward and dealing with their subsequent pathway through the hospital. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a pleasant telephone manner. It is essential that you have the ability to interact with patients calmly, sensitively and efficiently both on the telephone and in person. You must be able to use your own initiative, prioritising your workload to meet the changing needs of the department, as the Acute Medical Unit is a high pressure fast paced environment. Working pattern: 1600-2200 - 21 hours average per week on a rolling 4 week fixed pattern rota.
