Job Description

Main Duties: * Transfers patients within all areas of the Trust using the correct equipment i.e. wheelchairs, trolleys and bed. * Transfers medical gas cylinders across the Trust as required including the changing of cylinders at ward level and various medical gas manifolds. Additionally, responsible for the receipt and correct storage of cylinders whilst ensuring the security, cleanliness and tidiness of all medical gases storage areas. * Transfers deceased patients to the Mortuary and conducts the necessary mortuary procedures and protocols including assisting senior nursing staff in facilitating the viewing of deceased patients out of hours. * Organises linen ready for delivering or returning to the laundry. Packing and covering linen for storage or delivery. Is responsible for managing and keeping records of stock levels * Delivery and collection of specimens and pharmacy stock as required to include the delivery of bulk I.V. Fluids to the ward. * Delivers and collects meal trolleys and other specialised catering equipment/meals/snack boxes. * Delivering clean linen to wards. Collecting used linen from wards and other patient areas * Collection and correct disposal of clinical, domestic and recycling waste in line with Trust policies and procedures whilst ensuring the security, cleanliness and tidiness of all external waste handling / storage areas, some of which may be hazardous. * Collection / delivery of x-rays and or medical notes to/from any location within the hospital. * Collection / delivery of equipment and furniture to / from any location within the hospital. Undertakes any ad-hoc duties as directed by the supervision and management team. * Carries out a visual risk assessment of trolleys and wheel chairs prior to use and sanitises using designated equipment as required. * Reports any safety deficiencies, incidents, near misses, ill health and environmental incidents to their manager. * Ensures company safety arrangements and procedures are followed always. Brings any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided to the attention of the Manager * Complies with standards as set up in the company procedures and through training delivered. * Undertakes additional duties as required by their supervisor in line with capabilities. * Communicates effectively with all the teams to ensure there is a seamless way of working across the contract. * Brings to life the Mitie values daily and demonstrates the exceptional everyday. * Works safely always giving due consideration for the safety of others and the environment. * Smart in appearance. Compliant with Portering dress code and Trust uniform procedure whilst on duty, maintains a high level of personal hygiene and is presentably dressed always wearing full uniform * Able to provide a customer focused service, as a significant aspect of the job is patient care. * Has basic knowledge of Health and Safety at work guidelines such as manual handling * Manual handling & some bending / stretching / heavy lifting required. * Upholds and reflects the vision and values of the Trust and Mitie in all actions and behaviours. * Has a good level of both written and spoken English skills * A strong communicator, who can easily interact with customers and team members * Supports the helpdesk service as well as covering help desk breaks and shifts. * Enthusiastic and Conscientious. Diligent and committed. A flexible approach, and "can do attitude" together with the ability to self-prioritise will be required * Acts calmly and quickly in emergencies or in the face of conflicting demands * Ability to operate smartphones and radios * Communicates sensitively with patients and their families. Copes well with sickness, death and distress * Maintains a good working relationship with; Mitie employees, NHS trust employees and hospital patients * Represents Mitie and the client always in a professional, courteous and confident manner Health and Safety responsibilities: * Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times; * Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment; * Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received; * Report any issues or training needs to your Line manager and /or via your divisional incident reporting system; Information Security: * Ensure compliance with Mitie's information security procedures in all activities; * Proactively identify and report security risks to your manager; * Report actual and suspected security incidents; Note: This job description Is intended to give the post holder an appreciation of the role envisaged for this position and the range of duties undertaken.
