We are currently seeking a Sr. Back-End Developer to join our Cloud Engineering team in Reading. The successful candidate will work with world-class engineers, building and extending out highly scalable services that provide the Forcepoint Cloud products. Forcepoint Reading Office The Forcepoint office is located in a spacious nature reserve and park grounds next to the river Thames in Reading (TVP), with easy access to Reading Town Centre provided by a complimentary bus service. Responsibilities * Design, document and implement Java software * Be an advocate for engineering best practice * Maintain replicated and distributed database systems in production environments * Proactively investigate and reproduce production issues leading to timely resolution, root cause analysis and feedback for future prevention * Participate in all aspects of the scrum delivery process Qualities * Enthusiastic and driven to deliver quality results within agreed timescales * Positive can-do attitude * Works collaboratively with immediate team members and peers in other teams * Shares a common goal of delivery and takes ownership to succeed * Self-motivated and flexible to changing tasks that may require learning new skills * Able to work well as part of a team or independently as needed Skills & Qualifications: * Java development expertise * Linux programming and systems experience; CentOS8 would be excellent * Deep understanding of database systems; configuration, performance analysis, implementations * Experience installing, configuring, tuning and maintaining MySQL or derivative databases * Knowledge and understanding of column database technologies and product; e.g. ElasticSearch, MongoDB, etc * CI/CD Jenkins, puppet * Packaging; RPM, pulp * Experience working on large, globally distributed cloud infrastructures * AWS experience a plus, especially if that includes RDS * Graduate degree in Computer Science or closely related subject or equivalent experience
