Job Description
Applications are invited for the post of part time Specialty Doctor in Liaison Psychiatry. The NBT Acute Mental Health Liaison Service provides mental health care in a large teaching hospital in partnership with Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) and North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT). This postholder will be employed by AWP and hold an honorary contract with NBT, and be based at Southmead Hospital within the NBT Acute Mental Health Liaison Service. The service sees people from 16yrs upwards, and is subdivided into two sub-teams on site: The Emergency Zone Liaison team that covers the ED and Acute Medical Units and operates a 7-9pm 7 day service; and the In-patient liaison team that covers all in-patient wards and operates 9-5pm Mon-Friday (core RAID). The two parts have separate referral pathways and allocation/triage meetings but staff are rotated between the teams on a regular basis, as well as meet weekly for a MDT, and overseen by one service manager. The post holder will predominantly undertake clinical assessments and management of patients between the in-patient liaison team of the service and to provide input in the Emergency Zone (Emergency Dept (ED) and Acute Medical assessment Unit (AMU)). There will be allocated time for supported professional activities including teaching and quality improvement projects. This is a career grade post and includes one hour per week protected supervision time with the Consultant. The post holder will be expected to attend the weekly Southmead Psychiatry Academic meeting. A Peer group for Specialty Doctors is available and the doctor will be expected to attend this regularly. There are opportunities to continue professional development and study leave to this end is supported. The post offers the chance to broaden knowledge and learn new clinical skills. There are also opportunities to develop a special interest in clinical liaison work, for example working with MUS, neuro-liaison, and teaching of acute hospital staff. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, be flexible in your approach, and show you can work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
