Job Description
Staff Nurse-Spinal Injuries Southport Hospital Spinal Injuries Permanent Full-time Band 5 24,907-30,615 Per annum/pro rata Working pattern : Based on a 12 hour rotational shift pattern throughout the 7-day period including day & night duty. There will also be an opportunity to work shorter shifts to ensure an even balance across the roster whilst facilitating patient care. Part-time hours will also be considered as the Trust supports flexible working patterns and work / life balance. If so, the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre in-patient ward-setting could be the place for you. Your role will involve providing a holistic approach to delivering goal-centred & outcome focused care & enablement for patients with a variety of abilities due to spinal cord lesion. The Centre comprises of 43 in-patient beds, including up to 10 spinal Acute & Respiratory Care (ARC) beds that are supported by the Spinal Respiratory team & has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment programme to facilitate enhanced infection control procedures. In addition we have a well-established Spinal Outreach Service that currently offers 8 in-patient beds in a community setting. We provide acute care and rehabilitation services for individuals who have experienced a life changing spinal cord lesion following trauma, surgery or other mechanism. The Centre undertakes planned surgery for specialist procedures such as Intrathecal Baclofen Pump insertion & we are the national referral centre for Phrenic Nerve Pacemaker Implant surgery. There is also an extensive rehabilitation programme provided by a comprehensive multi-professional team that is supported by a Psychology & Counselling service. The Centre has dedicated rehabilitation & therapy facilities within the Department, including a fully equipped Gym, Hydrotherapy pool, upright mobility equipment & Occupational Therapy assessment / treatment areas. You must: Be a 1st level Registered Nurse (Adult Branch) or Student Nurse due to qualify in early 2020 Dual qualified staff (i.e. Adult / Paediatric or Adult / Mental Health) would also be welcomed Previous experience of working with patients with spinal cord lesions is preferable, although a full education & development programme will be provided Ideally have an interest in a specialist subject i.e. tissue viability, mental health, infection control, high dependency care Experience in an intensive care or high dependency setting would also be advantageous Have a desire to develop your knowledge and skills within this challenging and rewarding environment We can offer you: Supervised practice with on going preceptorship Experience in all aspects of nursing patients with spinal cord lesions including acute & respiratory care, domiciliary ventilation & rehabilitation Service specific induction days including a 4-week supernumerary status with opportunities to work alongside the wider multi-professional team including Spinal Outpatients / Outreach, Respiratory team & Case Management In-house education & competency-based training programme Annual Personal Development Review Development opportunities based on identified and agreed training needs i.e. Critical Care, Tissue Viability, Infection Control, Leadership & Management Advertising Date: 8th June, 2020 Closing Date: 30th June 2020 Proposed Interview Date: 14th July, 2020 For further details / informal visits contact: Sandra Croston, Senior Sister or Kate Taylor, Acting Senior Sister on 01704 704345 Please be aware, that we may close a vacancy earlier that stated, should a sufficient number of applications be received, you are therefore advised to apply at your earliest convenience Employment Type: FULL_TIME
