The Visual Quality engineer is accountable for establishing and verifying delivery of visual quality standards of V-Nova codecs and supporting VQ characterisation. Also partner closely with R&D and QA teams in ensuring what is delivered provides clear benefit to our customers. The Visual Quality Engineer is the key VQ role at V-Nova. It holds responsibility for establishing and verifying suitable Visual Quality standards are met for all products. This includes setting quality standards, evaluating and selecting metrics and approaches (objective and subjective) to be used in evaluating acceptance, helping establish automated processes to deliver best quality output for subjective assessment, establishing and executing on subjective assessment methodologies, and leading research into appropriate calibration guidance to be used with in house and customer platforms to deliver optimum Visual Quality. Responsibilities * Supporting R&D and QA teams by evaluating Visual Quality impact of new algorithms or features and providing corrective advice and analysis. * Helping establish calibration guidance for any new product iterations across internal and external candidate platforms * Collaborating with technical and commercial teams to help establish the causes of VQ issues perceived in internal and external evaluations to ensure we are accurately diagnosing and planning resolution of VQ issues. * Defining and documenting V-Nova Visual Quality standards for relevant customer use cases * Design and create VQ test conditions and scripts to address business and technical use cases * Use existing tools and techniques to execute VQ test and build/script new tools for performing VQ testing/validation function * Defining and documenting objective and subjective VQ assessment guidelines and processes, and training users of these. * Evaluating, recommending, and/ or developing and leading adoption of VQ metrics / tools such as PSNR, MS-SSIM, VMAF and JND * Leading the use of the above and ensuring it is fit for purpose and iterated & evolved in an appropriate and timely manner. Provide internal confidence in V-Nova Visual Quality standards, the reliability of assessments we conduct, and advice we provide to external users. * Planning and conducting scientifically driven video quality tests to generate reports for benchmarking purposes. Collaboration with / use of external experts to support our internal research efforts. * Leading the preparation of technical white papers.
