Job Description
Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) is the trading arm of The Salvation Army in the UK and Republic of Ireland. We were established in 1991 to help fund The Salvation Army's vital work with vulnerable people in the UK, and today we raise money and encourage reuse and recycling through a network of over 200 charity shops, 2 Superstores, 3 Donation Centres and a clothing collection division, all of which is constantly growing and developing. With the support of the British public, we have been able to donate millions of pounds to The Salvation Army - over £43 million has been donated in the last five years alone, helping to fund the extensive and very important work that The Salvation Army carries out- including homelessness and addiction services, care for older people, help at emergency incidents, support for adult victims of human trafficking in England and Wales and a Family Tracing Service. If you want to be a part of our success and to play a part in helping others whilst working for a fantastic company, then read on! The role: We are looking for a friendly & helpful volunteer driver. If you have had customer focussed experience, whether in paid or voluntary roles and have a friendly and positive outlook then we are looking for you to assist our teams in making the shop as successful as it can be. As a volunteer driver you will be responsible for the collection and delivery of goods to private houses. You will be required to assess the donated goods for quality and assist in the shop when not required to drive. This role will involve an extensive amount of manual handling General Duties * To deliver and collect goods from private houses as directed * To load and unload the van and carry the stock from the house and into the shop * To manage the appointments and routes taken * To be flexible in your hours of work to ensure that customer's expectations are met with regard to appointments * Responsible for all daily vehicle checks and reporting any serious defects. * In the event of the vehicle being off the road for any reason, you will be expected to undertake other duties in the store as directed by the store manager, this may include serving customers in the shop and helping out with general duties. * Assist in the sorting and preparation of all donated stock * Support the Shop Manager in all aspects of best practice and Health and Safety Procedures * Ensure that personal behaviour reflects the visions and values of the company The ideal candidate will have: * A passion for charity retailing * Excellent customer service skills * A full and current driving licence * Manual handling experience (not essential) * Knowledge of the legislation regarding furniture and household goods (not essential) * Knowledge of the local area * Commitment to the ethos and values of The Salvation Army Trading Company This role is an unpaid role, but reasonable travel expenses will be paid in line with the volunteer expense policy.
