We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic Clinical Scientist in Immunology to join our friendly, enthusiastic and motivated team at Mid Essex Hospital services Trust (MEHT) sited at Broomfield, Chelmsford. Ideally the applicant will have full FRCpath and therefore will qualify for the Consultant Clinical Scientist post. However, applicants are also encouraged to apply if they have part 1 and are actively working towards part 2. Applicants who fulfil a Principal post will be given full support to progress through their exams and Consultant cover will be provided from a neighbouring Trust. The Immunology service is Consultant led and provides advice to the local Trust and also to Primary care as well as supporting the Essex Immunology Network that includes the Southend University Hospital Foundation Trust (SUHFT) and Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust (BTUHFT). The Immunology Consultant Clinical Scientist is employed by MEHT and is based in the Immunology laboratory office at Broomfield Hospital and currently visits the Pathology First laboratory twice per month via an SLA between MEHT and SUHFT. There is dedicated office space with IT access and remote access is available for both sites. There is a close working relationship with the Consultant Clinical Biochemist at SUHFT who has a special interest in Immunology and is the chair of the Pathology First Immunology subgroup. There are no Immunology clinics but there is a regional allergy service run from Broomfield Hospital. The laboratories are both open 8:30 - 5:00 and there is no out of hours service for Immunology and no point of care testing. For MEHT the Immunology lab is part of the Blood Sciences department based at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. The MEHT Immunology workload is approximately 6000 tests per month with approximately 50% from GP's. Routine autoimmune and allergy tests are done in house while other tests are referred to specialist laboratories. The LIMS system is WinPath 5 which can be accessed remotely. Mid Essex Hospital Services, which was established as an NHS Trust in 1992, has an annual turnover of 261m and employs approx. 4,400 staff. It provides local elective and emergency services to 380,000 people living in and around the districts of Chelmsford, Maldon and Braintree (including Witham). The Trust also provides a regional wide plastics, head and neck and Upper GI surgical service to a population of 3.4 million and a supra regional burns service to a population of 9.8 million. The Mid & South Essex University Hospitals Group has three Trusts which are separate entities, but with one unified Joint Executive Group. Through this Sustainability and Transformation Programme, the Trusts are joining forces with primary care and neighbouring community Trusts to secure high quality, joined-up care across healthcare networks to make dramatic improvement to patient care and access to services. Pathology services at the three Trusts have commenced working collaboratively. As they move towards a single clinical service across the three sites, a group Clinical Director and group Head of Pathology services have been appointed. These individuals provide single points of senior leadership across the three sites. Located in the City of Chelmsford, with all major road connections, frequent mainline rail services to and from London and a major airport at Stansted just 40 minutes away, the Trust is in an ideal location for commuting. MEHT is a research active organisation and strongly encourages new Consultants to be involved with research and facilitate recruitment of their patients into clinical trials, particularly NIHR portfolio studies and commercial research. The R&D department offers a full supportive service to support this activity The multi-faith room is a much valued resource and very well used.
