Your new role We are recruiting for a Duty Shift Manager to join our team in Bristol at our state of the art Train Maintenance Centre. This is a permanent role working on a rotating shift basis. The role is responsible for leading and managing a team of employees to carry out safety critical maintenance on a fleet of trains in accordance with the VMI. Will involve ensuring safety standards are upheld at all times and processes are followed correctly. When on shift the DSM is the first point of contact for all depot and maintenance issues. The Duty Shift Manager will have control of Maintenance teams overseeing, fault finding and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets. Staff and team development, continuous improvement into productivity and efficiency. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables: * Responsible on a shift basis to ensure that The team delivers the contractual requirements for availability of train to the correct standard to meet the diagrammed requirements of the TOC * To ensure all contractual KPI's are complete for each SET before entering service * To ensure that all records are completed and entered into the maintenance management system. * Obtain and use engineering schedules, procedures and specifications for traction and rolling stock activities * Support good quality, health, safety and environmental practices in the workplace * Organise resources and prioritise routines to undertake planned traction and rolling stock engineering activities * Responsible for the safe movement of rolling stock * Responsible for the recruitment of the maintenance team members * Responsible for the continued development of the maintenance teams * Control costs through planning of resources * Identify and deal with hazards in the railway environment * Carry out in process and post maintenance checks in accordance with the Q&A manager to drive continued improvement in maintenance activities * Diagnose faults in traction and rolling stock assets and pass to the technical team * Ensure adherence to VMI's, VMP's and any other technical instructions. * Development of improvements in maintenance processes * Deal with disciplinary issues within the maintenance teams * Carryout assessments in line with the depot competence management system as required * Develop professionally and support good working relationships * Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi's new business demands as required * Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post About you Essential * Management of large teams working on a shift basis 24/7 * Extensive preventative and corrective rolling stock maintenance experience. To include modern fault finding and repair techniques using pc based laptops and remote train diagnostics. * Extensive experience of modern maintenance management systems (MMS) and associated reliability and available trend analysis. * Proven service delivery experience in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment. * Outstanding Safety Awareness gained in an operational railway engineering environments. NEBOSH or IOSH trained * Qualified assessor capable of direct and indirect assessment. Qualifications * M & E HNC or served engineering apprenticeship.
