Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - Emergency Care
Overview
Job Description
Would you like to work across an emergency floor where every day is different and also have the chance to contribute to patient care across other areas of the hospital? Would you like to be part of a small, friendly, well respected team with opportunities to develop the service? Would you like zero oncall commitment? Would you like the opportunity to undertake the independent prescribing qualification? Due to internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for an innovative clinical pharmacist wishing to develop their clinical knowledge in our emergency floor team. The successful applicant will contribute to the 7 day clinical pharmacy service to the emergency floor (encompassing the Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care Unit, Acute Medical Unit, and Frailty Unit) at Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, which will involve working 1 in 4 weekends (8am to 4pm). During the week, you may also cover other areas of the hospital, giving you variety in the wards you visit. Your role will involve providing expert pharmaceutical knowledge and advice to the staff working on wards. This will include working as part of an MDT, helping to improve patient care through effective medicines reconciliation and medicines optimisation. You will also work alongside the Lead Clinical Pharmacists in Emergency Care to ensure protocols and guidelines are in line with local and national objectives to maximise cost-effective and safe prescribing. You will need to have previous experience of working in an acute hospital ward environment and you will have excellent communication and negotiating skills, working closely with patients and multidisciplinary teams throughout the hospital. You will be able to work under pressure and alone with excellent prioritisation skills. You will ideally be (or working towards being) a qualified independent prescriber having completed the first year of a clinical diploma in pharmacy practice. Pharmacists are encouraged to train as prescribers in order to minimise delays in the medicines reconciliation process. In return for your hard work and commitment we will give you the opportunity to develop your skills as a clinical practitioner in a friendly structured environment supported by an excellent team. The pharmacy department at Broomfield Hospital is a professional, forward thinking department, which gives all staff the opportunity to develop to their full potential. We have strong links with nearby universities and actively encourage all pharmacy staff to continue to develop professionally throughout their career. Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust is based in the heart of Essex and provides core district general hospital services to a catchment population of 360,000.
