Job Description

Positive Behavior Support Worker - Waking Nights Service/Location: Aspens - Pembury, Kent, TN2 4QU Aspens is looking to recruit specialised and highly experienced support workers to join two single-person services and be part of a developing PBS team. Positive Behaviour Support is an evidence based approach to supporting people with complex and challenging behaviours and is based on the principles of improving quality of life, being person centred, and using behaviour analytic strategies. As a PBS worker you will have the opportunity to develop your existing skills through the completion of a recognised and accredited L5 qualification in Positive Behaviour Support as well as gain valuable supervision from the PBS Specialist. This role requires a high level of resilience as the people we are supporting can have difficulties in expressing themselves, leading to behaviours of concern. No two days will be the same, however, each successfully overcome challenge can bring its own rewards. This is a job that will keep you busy and allow you to use creative solutions to problem solve. "I am a 22 year old woman and for the past year I have lived in my own home which I love! I am supported at all times, as although I am very able and independent in lots of ways, I struggle with understanding risks and how to communicate with others. I can do lots of things for myself like make simple meals and drinks and I can read and write. I love colouring, designing posters, and painting nails! I can do the majority of my personal care but may need you to prompt me. I really love water so may have several showers during the day, especially if I don't have anything else I enjoy planned. I have limited verbal communication and echolalia. Sometimes I use single words but often I will take you to what I want. I will use full sentences if I feel strongly about something and really want to do something. It is important not to use the word no with me as it can make me feel anxious. My staff help me understand my plans by using pictures and giving me two choices at a time. There is so much I like to do but these activities do need to be planned as I don't like crowds of people and can sometimes be a bit unpredictable in my behaviour. I love shopping, music (Beyoncé and Michael Jackson are my favourites!), being pampered and having my nails and make up done, bowling and being outside. No day is ever the same with me and I like to live life to the full!" "Hi I'm a 27 year old man and I need a support worker to help me in my day to day life. I am caring, enthusiastic and lots of fun! I can do the majority of my own personal care and dressing but do need prompting to do this properly. I like to clean my own flat and hoover but like staff to prompt me and make this fun. I have my own mobility car and love going out shopping, swimming, bowling, going for long walks and kicking a football around. I have a diagnosis of ADHD which affects me in many ways. I take medication to help me with my condition but I need support and understanding from care team to help me cope with everyday life. I do become easily distracted and am always on the go. I don't mean to but I sometimes act without thinking and can become aggressive and verbally abusive. When I communicate I tend to use key words and fragment my sentences. I can be very repetitive in my speech and this can make me difficult to understand at times. When I feel that I'm not being understood I become frustrated very quickly. I am very perceptive and can tell what mood you are in and you feelings towards me. When I first meet you I may be shy and quiet and it may take me a while to feel comfortable with you!"
