Cosmetics and Toys Technologist The Role We currently have a vacancy for a Cosmetic/Toy Technologist at Poundstretcher office in Kirby, Leicester. We are recruiting for a Cosmetics and Toys Technologist, who will be required to provide regulatory control on own brand cosmetics, toiletry, beauty accessory ranges and toys. As a key part of our technical team, this role will be involved in a variety of technical processes, including specification management, product sample approval, and auditing of cosmetic safety systems and procedures. To ensure that the necessary information and procedures are in place to ensure that product integrity and customer satisfaction is maintained to the company's standards and in compliance with UK/EU statutory requirements. You will ensure all cosmetic products and toys including own brand meet the criteria for safe and legal requirements. The technologist would support all cosmetic and toy areas including toiletries, skin care, hair care, body care products and toys in our business and complete all technical requirements and working towards critical path for product launches. Your role is to support the QA manager & buying team in all matters of product quality, safety, legal and quality and introduction of new and existing products. The ideal candidate will be involved in offering guidance and support to the buying/sourcing team. As a Product Technologist your responsibilities will include: * Ownership of the specification management ensuring that product labelling advice and guidance is accurate and ensuring products are legal. * Management of technical & compliance data, traceability, accreditations, supplier due diligence, and will liaise with all departments when required, to ensure up to date knowledge & information across all functions. * Requesting control, updating and checking that supplier specifications and information is accurate and challenging when required. * You will be working towards the accountable QA sign-off on all products and artwork. * Continually analyse returns and recommend in developing products and ranges. * Keep up to date with process development and relevant legislation e.g. Cosmetics Regulations. * Stays aware of new technical and legislative developments. * Use of standard risk assessment tools to help determine and document the potential level of risk to customers, staff & the brand generally. * There may be occasional travel to China. * Implement and drive technical/quality standards to support and manage the cosmetics and toys range to ensure the business is legally compliant. * Dealing with any non-conformances including investigations of customer complaint, out of specification products, and process. * Implementing changes to systems and processes when necessary. * Create and approve INCI lists for regulatory and consumer awareness considerations. * Liaise with suppliers and sourcing team in the Far East. * Liaise with laboratories and toxicologists on all technical queries (cosmetics/toiletries/accessories, toys etc.). * Product registration and notification of import products to relevant authorities - For example - Cosmetic Product Notification Portal, REACH etc. To be successful as a Cosmetics and Toys Technologist you must have: * Commercial awareness; understanding the impact of their role in the launch of products and staying true to the company's brand. * Experience of cosmetics and toys product development in a retail environment is essential for the role. * That you have interacted with buyers in a trading environment. * Curious and ways to improve or enhance products to drive customer satisfaction but also conscious on margins. * Work within the NPD process and to the Critical Path timelines ensure we launch the right products first time. * Conduct quality reviews post launch to monitor quality making recommendations for any corrective action required. * Follow up on product launches through product reviews & customer complaints. * Great communicator in meetings that can negotiate and influences other stakeholders. * Be highly organised & commercial and be able to convey technical detail in a clear and concise manner. * Have the ability to meet strict deadlines. The candidate must have a Degree in Cosmetic science or chemistry or equivalent related discipline with solid technical experience from within cosmetic/toys industry. As well as great technical and quality management expertise you must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work with internal/external teams to provide workable solutions. Good IT Skills incl. Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Excellent communication skills (Verbal & Written). Proven organisational skills. At least 12 months experience in cosmetic /toy industry is essential.
