Pharmaceutical Sciences at Sandwich is a fully integrated Chemistry Manufacturing and Control (CMC) capability that encompasses state of the art active pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis and drug product design as well as a current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) clinical trials supply chain. Within Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Drug Product Design department utilises expertise in materials science, formulation design and process understanding to deliver innovative new medicines. We are seeking a formulation and process design scientist to work in a team of research and technical staff, under supervision of a team leader, engaged in the design, development and characterisation of pharmaceutical dosage forms. You will predominantly be involved in a laboratory and pilot plant 'hands-on' role, working on assigned drug product projects. With appropriate guidance, you will contribute to planning, generating and delivering high quality work and data to support the timely progression of new chemical entities in Pfizer's portfolio. Under the mentorship of subject matter experts, your existing knowledge and experience will be enhanced through engagement in a programme of active learning and training tailored to accelerate your contribution to the diverse business of DPD - in particular, the design, development, optimisation, scale-up and technology transfer of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Role Responsibilities: + Undertake high quality scientific experimentation to further the formulation and process development of dosage forms for novel drug candidates or product enhancement projects, which may include formulation design, process development and analytical assessment to derive appropriate data. + Support design and development of processes for manufacture of clinical supplies and commercial drug product and provide technical support to colleagues in GMP manufacturing facilities, where appropriate. + Develop and maintain a contemporary in-depth understanding of the science and technology of pharmaceutical dosage forms together with a regulatory awareness, and apply this knowledge to development of assigned drug candidates. + With support of project team members, evaluate, interpret and report results. + Ensure accurate, timely entries are made in electronic laboratory notebook system according to accepted good practice. + Compile and prepare technical reports in relation to project work. + Ensure compliance with appropriate documentation (SOPs, instruction manuals, risk assessments, etc.) so that all experimental / manufacturing-related activities are conducted in accordance with approved safety and quality procedures. + Ensure safe working practices are followed and maintained, both in own and others' work. Qualifications: Graduate in pharmaceutical or allied sciences i.e. first degree in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science / technology, chemistry, chemical engineering, life sciences. Practical experience in a pharmaceutical setting which may include general laboratory procedures, drug product characterisation techniques, formulation development / manufacturing techniques.
