Job Description

THE POST The posts is based at the Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre (LWNC) Level 3 NICU at Burnley where the post holder will become part of a team of 6 full time Neonatal Consultants, and 2 Consultants in hybrid posts. This substantive post attracts a 10 PA job plan with 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA sessions per week. The on call rota is 1 in 8 with 1 in 8 weekends on call. On-call will be based within the Neonatal Consultant rota. The post holder will normally work a 4 day week with the exception of the 'hot week' The level 3 services in the Lancashire and South Cumbria zone are delivered on a two site model between East Lancashire and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals as per the Zonal Network. Jointly with Preston, the neonatal service provides Level 3 neonatal services for the population of Lancashire & S Cumbria. The East Lancashire Unit caters for 6700 deliveries covering Blackburn and Burnley. This is an innovative post, which will involve working collaboratively with the paediatric department (of 19 WTE Consultant team with 6 community Paedaitricians) and tertiary cardiologists from Alder Hey Children's and Royal Manchester Children's Hospitals. The post holder will spend roughly 7/10th of their time in Neonatology, based in Burnley (7 out of 10PAs in neonatology, split into 5.5.DCC and 1.5 SPAs). The new appointee, in conjunction with all other Neonatal colleagues, will also carry out neonatal follow up clinics at the Blackburn and Burnley sites. The post holder will have responsibility for holding Paediatrics cardiology outpatients clinics and inpatient advice and liaison, including MDT for complex patients 3/10th (3 out of 10 PAs , split into 2.5 DCC and 0.5 SPAs) of their time. The Paediatric cardiology work will be done in close conjunction with the tertiary cardiology team in order to establish clear links and pathways to enable safe, effective care for children and young people in East Lancashire with cardiac conditions. The General paediatricians for East Lancashire are based in across the Burnley and Blackburn sites, with the 54 bedded in patient Children's unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital including busy observation and assessment units at Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals. The post holder's Cardiology Interest will complement the interests of the consultant team and a model of shared care of in particular the children with Complex congenital heart Disease is in development. Outpatient clinics also occur on both clinical sites, bringing the care of the patient closer to home, and there are opportunities for multiagency working to facilitate quality care.
