Job Description

Part of NHS Grampian, this Consultant in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery post will be based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in the North East of Scotland. NHS Grampian provides health services for the population of the Grampian Region and also for the population of the Northern Islands of Orkney and Shetland. Applications are invited from surgeons with either a major interest in Open or Endoluminal Surgery. The Department has national reputation for Open Aortic Surgery for Occlusive Disease, TOS, Renal Access and Complex Endovascular Surgery. The successful applicant will have IR access to undertake Peripheral Angiography, Angioplasty and Stenting within surgeon delivered lists as well as participating in our EVAR, FEVAR, BEVAR & TEVAR programmes. The Vascular Surgery team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary comprises of 5 Consultant Vascular Surgeons, 2 Vascular Interventional Radiologists, 5 Consultant Vascular Anaesthetists, a Specialist Vascular Nurse and a range of junior medical staff. The department is committed to Undergraduate Medical Education (University of Aberdeen), Postgraduate Vascular Surgical training (British Society Endovascular Therapy training centre), Clinical Research and Quality Improvement Programmes. The hospital is part of a 40 Million pounds investment programme from Scottish Government for improving elective services and it is expected that this will include funding for a Hybrid Suite. Aberdeen Royal Infirmary was the first centre in Scotland to have a functioning Robot (Di Vincci) and other than Transplant Surgery has all other adult & children services on site. The Grampian area offers many opportunities for a variety of interests and lifestyles away from the workplace, which suits both family and individuals alike; it is a very safe area of the country to bring up a family. Aberdeen has a buoyant economy and provides many attractions of any major city; theatre, cinema, sport, restaurants, shopping etc. The surrounding area of Aberdeenshire boasts many picturesque towns and villages within easy commuting distance which provides access to a large range of outdoor pursuits such as skiing, hillwalking, cycling, sailing etc. There are excellent transport links with the rest of Scotland - Glasgow and Edinburgh (the two largest cities), being easily accessed by road/rail.
