Job Description
A vacancy has arisen in the surgical ward, caring for patients undergoing elective procedures with a short to medium length of stay (2-10 days). This includes colorectal, breast, gynae-oncology, occasionally ENT and opthalmology and all elective and emergency urology. We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic registered nurse to join our friendly and supportive team, who are committed to delivering excellent patient care, as a Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse. You will be committed to providing an excellent patient experience and demonstrate good communication skills both with members of the multi disciplinary team, patients and relatives. You will be organised and able to mange your workload efficiently to ensure timely admission and discharge, maintaining a smooth patient pathway and ensuring that junior members of staff are supported to do the same. You will have a mentor qualification and ideally a degree or be committed to working towards achieving this. As a valued member of our team you will be supported by regular appraisals and a personal development plan with extensive training opportunities. There is a comprehensive competency based induction programme and support from the clinical education team is available. You will be required to work within the Trust procedures and policies and as this post may be subject to internal rotation over 24 hours a day, flexibility is essential. You will be expected to attend the Trust's Induction Programme for RNs, RMs and ODPs (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the programme lead if this is problematic: nicola.henthorn@nhs.net), lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area and classroom-based study days which run from 9am to 5pm. Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at enhanced level.
