Job Description
John Atwell Day Ward at Southampton Children's Hospital is currently looking for a ward administrator to support the busy surgical and medical day ward. JADW is a busy surgical and medical day unit providing care to children with a wide range of specialist needs including allergy, endocrinology, immunology and rheumatology as well as day surgical cases including orthopaedics, ENT, general surgery and gastroenterology. We are therefore looking for a ward administrator who is well organised, committed and motivated to support the unit in all admin duties with a high flow of patients whilst adhering to the Trust policies, procedures and values. ABOUT THE TEAM John Atwell is staffed with a skill mixed nursing team, Mon-Fri daily from 07:15 until 20:00, with the occasional weekend working to support additional theatre lists. John Atwell is a busy ten bed day case ward which sees over 5500 children a year undergoing medical or surgical day case procedure. It has close links with the Welcome research unit and maintains close liaison with the multi-disciplinary teams across a range of specialities including gastroenterology , endocrinology, allergy, nephrology and rheumatology WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Ward Administrator you will be expected to: * Ensure patient medical records and test results are available prior to admission * Check patient details on arrival ensuring all systems are updated as necessary * Ensure discharge papers are prepared in a timely manner ensuring it is distributed as necessary with the patient/carers receiving a copy before they leave * To manage enquiries to the unit either via the phone or face to face * Ensure that sufficient stock is available of stationery, linen, crockery * Inform the private patient coordinator of any inpatients that attend as private patients * Support the ward manager in ordering specialist equipment where required.
