Job Description
Position: - Control Room Shift Operations Controller Division: - Rail Services Location: - Rugby Reporting to: - Control Room Manager Purpose of the Role To learn all aspects of the daily running of the Operations Control Centre and assist Shift Operations Controllers. Key Accountabilities - * Safety To assist and learn to manage all Accidents and Incidents, ensuring correct Safety Critical Decisions are made. Learning to ensure the correct escalation process of Incidents and Accidents. The completion of relevant forms and their distribution together with supporting evidence. * Profitability To learn to performance monitor Freight and OTM services, disputing TRUST attribution delays thus saving Colas money on delays attributable to Network Rail. * Quality To ensure that all reports are compiled correctly and sent in a timely manner to the correct distribution lists. * Respect Treat people in a fair and consistent way. Consistently strive to understand client's needs and requirement. Key Tasks * Working as a Shift Operations Controller who has overall responsibility for the safety, operation and performance of the Colas Fleet on all shifts * To ensure clear communication in the correct timescales to facilitate the safe and efficient operation/ performance of the Colas fleet * To deal with the reporting and recording of any Incidents/ accidents/ Environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales in accordance with Company procedures * To manage all aspects of Colas Rail Fleet including staff issues and work towards successful completion of production work on their shift * To assist in ensuring that all work undertaken is recorded and logged in detail to an appropriate standard * To assist in the management all Personnel on their shift in terms of all short term changes, sickness and exceedances * Produce shift reports that include detailed maintenance and production reports to the requirements of the Business * To assist in the management of Safety, Accidents/ Incidents/ Environmental issues, Production output and quality for all Rail Services equipment and operators * To liaise with the maintenance department on all issues affecting machine performance on operational shifts * To assist in the response to any SPAD/ Incidents involving Man power or OTM when on duty or available to attend * To receive information and react as an escalation centre only for accidents and incidents on Colas Project sites * Assist in the management of the standards inside the control room to facilitate efficient and professional operation * Ensure all machine transit moves are managed to eradicate any eventuality of subsequent costs for third party train delays * To escalate as appropriate any issue which either through company procedure demands so or that falls outside of the Control Room Managers competency or authority * The above does not limit your duties and the Company may require you from time to time to undertake any work within your capabilities and capacity * Any other duties as required. Person Specification The job holder will be expected to work on both the Freight and OTM Control Desks and be able to work using their own initiative. They must be dynamic, able to work without supervision and be able to use initiative. They must able to work as a team and be flexible with their time to accommodate late notice shift changes. The person must have a desire to progress within the Control Room environment working up the structured scale to become a fully qualified Shift Operations Controller. Qualifications/Experience * To be able to work a shift pattern that is predominantly nights, day and weekends * Ensure compliance with Network Rail operational Group Standards of safety and reliability * Ensure Colas Rail Operations meet laid down requirements * Ability to prepare reports for the Management team on aspects of operating performance of the shift * Have strong IT competence particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel Principle Contacts Contact with Colas Rail UK Directors, Managers and Staff at all levels.
