Job Description

Care Worker, Children's Home, Special Needs 37 hours a week, experience not needed, full training and mentoring given Salary: £9.90 - £10.59 per hour (£19,056 - £20,372 per year) 33 days paid holiday per year. Supporter, Companion, Life Enhancer, Educator. As a Care Worker at St Joseph's, each day is different. You will be supporting young people with severe social communication difficulties and complex learning disabilities. This role gives you the opportunity to make a real difference to their lives. With your compassion and guidance, you will watch them grow and develop and support them towards adulthood. No two days are the same. You might support a young person in our adventure playground, help them choose what to eat and drink, travel to the supermarket to assist them with life skills such as money handling or accompany them on a trip to the local gym. We are a special school, college and children's home. Our care team support our young people outside of school hours. Supporting our young people can sometimes be challenging. They may get frustrated, anxious and emotional and you will need to guide them through it by helping them to manage their feelings and behaviour. You will have the ongoing support of a skilled and dedicated team. Comprehensive training and mentoring includes learning about safeguarding, autism and positive behaviour support. We will equip you with the confidence to support our young people, offer them boundaries and choices and provide safe and effective physical intervention if needed. Some of our residents may need personal care. You don't need experience. You need empathy and compassion and the drive to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people. You progress to a Senior Care Worker after 2 years and a QCF level 3 in residential childcare. If you are recruited, you will be required to complete Team Teach positive behaviour support training as part of your induction before employment.* You will need to be able to work 37 hours per week in a 4 week shift pattern including alternate weekends. We are also looking for staff interested in only working weekends. Own transport is desirable due to our semi-rural location. *St Joseph's requires all staff to pass training in the positive behaviour management framework, Team Teach. During the Coronavirus Pandemic the physical element of this training cannot be delivered owing to the need for social distancing. This training will be delivered as soon as Government guidance allows. Staff will need to pass the physical element of the training in order to be certified as Team Teach qualified. Staff may commence work on a case by case basis with the theoretical element of the training only at the absolute discretion of St Joseph's. The physical element of the training will remain a consideration in staff successfully completing probation.
