The Bot Control Systems (BCS) team focuses on the successful delivery of next generation bot motion control software. We are a team that does what needs to be done, by identifying gaps in our current bot systems and working with talented engineers across our business to prototype and deliver quality products. We are working on niche projects, all contributing to the improvement of our automated warehouses. We are looking for a passionate Team Leader to join our department who would like to work on unique, stretching and innovative projects. How you'll spend your days... * You will proactively manage the day to day running of the team, including carrying regular team meetings and 1:1s with individual team members. * Monitor upcoming work for the team and provide an estimate of future resource requirements and constraints. * Have oversight of the quality and velocity of work produced by the team * Actively contribute to the process of continuous improvement, with regards to self, team and systems; including mentoring and skills development. * Provide the team with appropriate levels of technical support and guidance. * Actively participate in recruitment to the team and to the Bot Control Systems (BCS) Department in general. * Attend regular planning meetings with the Product and Engineering Managers in order to identify goals and manage workload distribution between control systems and Bot Development teams. * Contribute and facilitate as required in team and area work review sessions in which technical and architectural decisions may get discussed. * Participate in change control and version control process as required both for the team developments and to support the BCS Department in general. * Collaborate with other team Leads to share resources as required by variation in workloads within teams. * Ensure that code development standards are adhered to Ocado SDLC guidelines. Working on new projects... * Collaborate with internal and external teams to define and develop control solutions and control architectures for new projects. * Contribute to initial scoping meetings to understand requirements. * Define, agree and help to modify proposed control architecture and scope of work for team and external suppliers. * Provide estimates for time and cost of BCS development effort. * Allocate team resources, provide delivery timelines and manage priorities. * Organise in collaboration with external teams and vendors prototyping testing on new hardware components and control solutions. * Drive the simulation effort for dynamic systems and provide the team with technical steering. * Investigate, justify and resource the development of new control solutions to improve costs / functionality / performance. We'd like to hear from you if you have... * Experience of managing complex technical teams in a fast paced environment * Demonstrable programming ability with in-depth understanding of underpinning techniques. * Confident in developing, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting integrated control solutions in the Material Handling field. * Comfortable with collaborating across team and functions * Proven decision making ability under the pressures of conflicting priorities and multiple work streams * A relevant degree or similar qualification in this field would be preferable You may be asked to perform tasks as required by management deemed as a reasonable request.
