We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Biophysical/Physical Modeller to join our team! This position is within Pharmaceutical Technology and Development and will be based at our site in Gothenburg, Sweden , or at our site in Macclesfield, UK . Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) is the organisation that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices for new medicines and providing expert technical support to all AZ's commercial drug substances and products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients. In Product Development, a department in Pharmaceutical Technology and Development, we focus on the design and development of commercial products and processes, contribute to new product introductions and to the continuous improvement of launched products. Product Development have recently created the Modelling & Simulation team, a strategic global team of experts covering a wide range of Modelling & Simulation expertise, with members based in Gothenburg and in Macclesfield. Main Duties & Responsibilities In this role you will work collaboratively with a variety of scientific specialists and project managers across a global organization to effectively deliver advanced modelling solutions and play a key role in shaping and driving the Modelling & Simulation strategy. The role holder will typically: o Translate complex biophysical, physical, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical problems into appropriate mechanistic/first principles models and deliver timely solutions. o Work collaboratively with experimentalists with different backgrounds to identify Modelling & Simulation opportunities and to strategically direct experimentation. o Drive and champion the organizational digital transformation. o Establish strong working relationships with the Modelling & Simulation team members and with other colleagues in Product Development to enable an impact-driven application of Modelling & Simulation. o Develop, validate and implement Modelling & Simulation protocols to be used by the wider scientific community in Product Development. Essential Requirements o MSc/PhD in physical chemistry, biophysics, physics, engineering, mathematics, computational biology or another relevant area. o Strong expertise in relevant programming and scripting languages, e.g. Matlab, C++, Python or similar, and willingness to learn. o Academic and/or industrial experience in the development and implementation of first principle/mechanistic models describing, e.g., biophysics, computational biology, biopharmaceutics, physical chemistry, or transport phenomena. o Strong motivation to understand pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical development activities to design, manufacture and evaluate drug products. o Ability to provide scientific leadership, coaching and mentorship for less experienced Modelling & Simulation scientists and for the wider Product Development community. o Strong collaboration, communication, influencing and networking skills. Desirable Requirements o Experience in the application of first principle/mechanistic models in the design and performance evaluation of pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical products and processes. o Working experience in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical/food/cosmetics and personal care/fast-moving consumer goods industry. o Knowledge/strong interest in in-vivo performance of pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical products. o Track record of scientific publications in the Modelling & Simulation area.
