Job Description
Evelina London Children's Hospital, St Thomas' Hospital. Consultants in Paediatric Surgery From 79,860 pa. excl. of London Zone Full Time - 10 PA Permanent and/or locum Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) is made up of two of London's best known teaching hospitals and employs over 13,000 staff and has over 2 million patient contacts a year. Our annual turnover is now 1.2 billion. The Evelina London Children's Hospital is a purpose-built Children's hospital opened in 2005, bringing together existing Children's services at St Thomas' and Guy's Hospitals onto one site. Evelina London Children's Healthcare (ELCH) comprises three directorates of GSTT and, along with Women's Services, functions as a Strategic Business Unit under the umbrella of GSTT. This enables ELCH to provide dedicated children's services and develop its own distinct identity whilst enjoying the support and shared assets of a very large, well-resourced trust. As part of King's Health Partners, ELCH is now one of the UK's Academic Health Sciences Centres, aiming to bring together world class teaching, research and clinical services. We are seeking full-time (10 PA) Consultants to join the Paediatric and Neonatal Surgical department. The department is undergoing a significant period of change and we are looking for individuals with appropriate skills to complement the existing team and help build the Paediatric Surgical Service to be in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. The department is committed to clinical subspecialisation and successful candidates would be expected to develop subspecialty practices that complement the needs of the department. An interest in postgraduate education and training would be an advantage, as would leadership training and experience. Paediatric General Surgery is a key service for the Evelina Children's Hospital and beyond. The department offers a wide range of outpatient services across the South East, in particular at Lewisham Hospital and Darent Valley, where the surgical team also perform day case surgery. There are outreach outpatient clinics at a number of affiliated DGHs which the successful applicant would be expected to undertake. You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at the interview stage. The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions. As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.
