The Opportunity Civil Engineering Group Leader, Barnwood, Gloucester, Competitive Salary & Benefits A new opportunity has arisen for a Group Leader to join us in the Civil Engineering Branch of the PWR Technology Directorate. Our vision is to create an organisation that will ultimately bring together all the "Technical" support resources in EDF's UK nuclear business units to enable EDF related duty holders to comply with all conditions inherent in the UK's regulatory framework for nuclear safety, security and environmental protection.The group leader works within the wider civil team, supporting the design delivery and site construction schedules, delivering the technical expertise to support across the project on UK RGP and code requirements to ensure that we can successfully build, commission and operate the UK EPR. This is an important and highly visible role within the project and as part of the wider technical leadership team. As such, the successful role holder will be given significant responsibility, delegated duties and be held accountable for the performance and delivery of their team. Your main duties include: * The group leader will manage up to 12 civil engineers, undertaking the important intelligent customer role on behalf of the HPC project and potentially for other licensees in the future. * Supporting the designers and project management teams and managing the regulators both internally and externally, providing first class support to the UK HPC project on behalf of the License organisation. * Reporting into the Civil Engineering Branch Manager as part of the newly re-named PWR Technology Function we are committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic working environment, we have already built a diverse team in the Civil Engineering Branch. The Person We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who will take responsibility for Technical Leadership, Staff development, Health and Safety, Work Planning, Quality Assurance and People Development. You will demonstrate the highest standards of focus on nuclear professionalism and safety. The principle accountabilities for the group leader are to manage the team, in order to discharge the role of Design Authority on the design of Buildings & Structures within the team's scope and to carry out the Intelligent Customer role for the Engineering activities. This will include undertaking and empowering the team to: * Facilitating the work of the Assurance directorate in their role as independent assessors of the design and it's acceptance. * Providing technical support to the hold point process in order to ensure that accepted design information is handed to the contractors. * The management of technical risks and opportunities for the Project and CDM aspects, including discharging the role of principle designer. * The review and acceptance of designs produced by the Responsible Designer & sustaining the relationships with the Responsible Designer (EDF/CNEPE & Edvance) in the UK and France. * Management of the interactions and activities of the regulators (ONR & EA) on the civil design scope, technical issue resolution within the project constraints (safety, quality, cost, schedule). It is desirable that you will have experience in the nuclear (or other highly regulated) industry working in large-scale, multi-cultural industrial project. Previous experience within project management and taking ownership for leading a team would also be an advantage. Your previous skills and experiences will enable you to manage engineers, contractors, consultants and other advisors. The successful candidate will have the essential skills and qualifications required: * Advanced degree in civil or structural engineering subject (or equivalent), Health & Safety legislation including Nuclear Site License requirements - (Chartership would be advantageous) * Experience within design with hazard & accidental safety cases working within UK CDM regulations including working in a highly regulated industry & with regulators.
