OUR TRANSPORT PLANNING BUSINESS City Science has developed award-winning transport data and modelling software - Cadence - which we use to deliver prize-winning consultancy commissions at the forefront of sustainable transport, transport data management, data analysis and transport technology. From our head office in Exeter, we are increasingly partnering with transport authorities, engineering consultancies and other stakeholders in the delivery of complex transport planning commissions across the South West, West Midlands and South East of England. Our Head of Transport Planning is now based in the South East, to build a team and expand our presence across the region and transport planning market. This team will operate virtually, until a south east hub is chosen, aligned with client and staff geographies. ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly motivated and talented sustainable transport planning specialist, to help drive, influence and cultivate our regional and transport planning growth. Reporting directly to the Head of Transport Planning, this is an incredible opportunity for the right individual, to make their mark on the transport sector. Key responsibilities will include: * Taking a strategic leadership role in work winning - leading on strategic pursuits and taking the role of Bid Manager on tenders and tracking emerging opportunities * Working with the Head of Transport Planning and the Business Development team to grow the regional profile of our key capabilities and increase our influence and engagement with Local Authorities and other potential clients * Working with the Head of Transport Planning to develop and deliver against the company-wide transport planning business plan, including owning delivery for an allocated region * Project management, technical support and strategic direction for transport planning, modelling, forecasting and appraisal projects, being delivered by virtual teams. Ensuring delivery to a high standard, within budget, on programme and in accordance with client requirements and technical best practice * Scoping, reviewing and managing the preparation of technical and client reports, presentations, tender documents and publications * Working closely with the transport data science and development teams to automate processes and support enhancements to the Cadence software * Responsibility for managing resources within an allocated region including resourcing, carrying out appraisals, staff development and mentoring. ABOUT YOU You're a highly experienced transport planning professional, specialising in active travel, environmental planning, public transport and/or transport technology. You have proven ability to apply your knowledge of a range of transport planning principles and techniques to deliver client objectives. You're a highly effective communicator able to accurately interpret and communicate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences. You have established relationships and extensive experience providing technical leadership as a primary client contact. You're passionate about cities, urbanism and transportation, and have a keen eye for innovation and technology and the positive role these can play in society. KEY REQUIREMENTS Technical Knowledge * High level of technical competency across a range of transport planning disciplines, with specialist transport planning expertise in active travel, environmental planning, public transport and/or transport technology * Proven experience and understanding including development of local and strategic transport policy at sub-regional, regional and national level and the development of transport infrastructure programmes * Significant knowledge and experience in multi-modal transport evaluation including management, production and review of strategy, multi-modal transport modelling, forecasting, appraisal, such as the development of feasibility studies, Option Assessment Reports and business cases * Extensive knowledge of transport guidance and best practice (e.g. WebTAG and DMRB) and the preparation of strategic transport models * Extens
