Laboratory Support Worker (with support to undertake a Level 2 Qualification in Healthcare Science) Microbiology 18,005 - 19,337 / annum pro rata (with enhanced pay for night and weekend working) The Applicant: Applicants for this position will be highly reliable, trustworthy and be able to work to tight deadline under pressure. You will be a team worker as well as able to work on your own and demonstrate the OUH core values of behaviour and conduct. You will have a flexible approach to work hours as you will be expected to work Departmental out of hour's shifts and rotas as and when required. This may include evenings and nights both through the week and at weekends and Bank holidays. This is a full time post (37.5 hours / week). Knowledge requirements: A good, basic level of education is required that demonstrates a good understanding of the English language and a good level of numeracy. Skills requirement: Good verbal and written communication skills are essential along with fast, accurate keyboard skills. An ability to follow instructions, work under pressure and demonstrate good manual dexterity. Duties : As a laboratory support worker, you will be required to input patient information onto the Laboratory computer system so a good understanding of English and keyboard skills are essential. The role would require you to provide an efficient and effective service within the Microbiology Laboratory, involving sample receipt, data entry and sample processing in accordance with Departmental SOPs and Trust policies and procedures. Successful applicants will also be required to undertake other laboratory duties as described in the job description which also includes the working with laboratory automation and equipment, autoclaves and centrifuges, as well as making up solutions and managing stock. Level 2 Diploma Qualification / Apprenticeship in Healthcare Science: Successful applicants will be fully supported to undertake a Level 2 Diploma apprenticeship in Healthcare Science over a 13 month fixed term training period. The department commits to dedicated study time for those undertaking this qualification within the working hours. There would be an expectation that successful candidates are able to attend regular meetings with the supervisor, assessor and attend training sessions leading to a QCF Level 2 Apprenticeship in Healthcare Science. This consists of a Diploma qualification and functional skills in literacy and numeracy and ICT.
