Alzheimers Volunteers ,
Truro, Cornwall

Overview

Job Description

Side by Side is an exciting Alzheimer's Society service which seeks to reduce social isolation and loneliness for people with dementia by providing person centred support either face to face or over the telephone. What will I be doing? As a Side by Side telephone volunteer you will provide regular, friendly and person-centred conversations with people living with dementia. You will be matched with people based on their interests and preferences. Your involvement will support people with dementia to feel less isolated and will focus on each individual's strengths, helping them to remain connected, feel valued and more confident. Where is it you want me to volunteer? The base for this role is flexible - you could volunteer from home or come to the local Alzheimer's Society office in Truro. What skills do I need? We are looking for people who enjoy quality conversation, are good listeners and who are comfortable making telephone calls from remote locations. You will be passionate about supporting, enabling and empowering people with dementia. Lastly, you will have a committed and flexible approach to volunteering with the ability to follow service boundaries, policies and procedures. What will I gain from being involved? Volunteering with Side by Side is a great way to improve your knowledge and understanding of dementia, develop person centred support skills, meet new people and most importantly make a real difference in someone's life. You will receive training and on-going supervision to support you in your volunteering role and your travel and activity expenses will be reimbursed in line with society policy. How much time will I need to give? The level of commitment for this role can be agreed based upon your availability.
