Our Energy practice works with Europe's leading energy companies, regulators, governments and investors. We provide economic analysis and clear advice to help our clients achieve commercial success and make better policy and regulatory decisions. Our expertise covers best practice regulation, competition advice, dispute support (whether international or commercial), strategy and policy development and investment/transaction support. We are also at the forefront of the ongoing energy transition to support the development of a low carbon economy, delivering a portfolio of innovative client work to help assess potential future energy solutions. We have worked on energy related issues in more than 50 countries and on all continents. We are currently looking for an exceptional candidate to join our Energy practice. As an energy economist at Frontier you can expect to work in project teams across the full range of our expertise for both private and public sector clients, and often in relation to high profile industry issues. Project work is likely to be predominantly UK based, but you can also expect to be part of project teams working for clients right across Europe, and some travel may be required. Some recent work of the practice includes advising: * network companies in relation to the next round of GB regulatory price controls; * investors on a range of transactions across Europe for gas and electricity assets, including renewable technologies; * one of the merging parties as it seeks CMA clearance for a proposed high profile energy retail merger; * the GB regulator in relation to reforms of electricity network charges; * the UK government on its strategy for the use of the gas network as the economy decarbonises; * an energy supplier on the impact of the proposed retail price cap and its engagement with the GB regulator; * a range of clients about the impact of low carbon technologies such as electric vehicles and renewable heat technologies on the electricity system; and, * the Bulgarian government on two State aid cases in the electricity sector. Applicants are required to have experience gained within a government/public authority, consultancy or industry. Previous energy experience is highly desirable. However, we will also consider those who have worked in other areas and have a keen interest to specialise in energy. We expect the successful candidate to have the ability to apply a range of microeconomics tools to policy and business issues. Therefore you should have at least a degree with a main focus in economics or another highly analytical/quantitative discipline . You will also be able to communicate complex economic arguments in non-technical language, and to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues.
