" We currently have an exciting permanent opportunity for an experienced DBA to work in our busy, fast moving team supporting business critical databases. The successful applicant will have a real opportunity to provide input and expertise into improving the estate and shaping its future in a maturing environment. The team is currently engaged in a number of high profile projects and there are huge opportunities where a real difference can be made. Primary Responsibilities \t * Install database software. \t * Create and maintain all databases in line with defined practices and standards. \t * Ensure that all databases maintain acceptable levels of performance, integrity and security in line with agreed company standards. \t * System monitoring and troubleshooting issues in a timely manner to ensure provision of services within SLA. \t * Perform upgrades, migrations and patching of databases. \t * Provide recommendations when required as to suitable design of database objects. \t * Provide recommendations when required as to suitable design of new databases. \t * Write and adhere to database documentation, including standards, procedures and company practices. \t * Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security. \t * Control access permissions and privileges. \t * Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans. \t * Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly. \t * Capacity planning. \t * Work closely with IT managers and application developers. \t * Communicate regularly with technical, application and operational staff. \t * Provide on-call support as required. \t * Carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed. \t * Exercise due care and diligence, ensuring the areas the role is responsible for are organised and controlled. \t * Uphold responsibilities for risk and business continuity practices as appropriate to the position the role holds within the organisation. \t * To be quality driven, aiming for 100% accuracy and timeliness of delivery. \t * To effectively plan the way services are delivered so that all activity is directly related to providing quality services and meeting the expectations of the customer (internal and external). \t * To continuously review processes and practices relating to the role and act as a catalyst for change and improvement in individual and team performance. \t * To observe proper standards of market, business and personal conduct, demonstrating integrity in the execution of duties. \t * To communicate and promote the values which reinforce and support a consistent quality culture. \t * Have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and a strong drive to achieve effective results. The ideal candidate will also have experience of some or all of the following: \t * At least 3 years' experience Oracle 10, 11 and 12 \t * At least 3 years' SQL Server 2012 experience \t * Solaris 10 and 11 administration and shell scripting \t * Database cloning \t * RMAN \t * Oracle Data Guard \t * Proven record of performance tuning within a production environment \t * Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills \t * A drive for improvement and implementation of best practice \t * Ability to learn new technologies and skills \t * Understand IT Policies & Processes, such as exposure to confidential data etc. \t * Experience in SQL Server installation and administration. \t * Understanding of SQL Server High Availability and Failover \t * Solid foundation in sizing, capacity planning, backup, and disaster recovery planning. \t * Thorough understanding of optimisation and performance tuning. \t * Experience in writing and optimising T-SQL, stored procedures, functions and triggers. \t * Excellent knowledge of SQL Server best practice.
