Rotational Clinical Pharmacist

We are looking for a flexible and dynamic Rotational Clinical Pharmacist at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). You will have the opportunity for development as you rotate through the available rotations. ABOUT THE TEAM All staff are required to contribute to extended hours, weekends & bank holidays as part of core hours. This includes general dispensary duties such as dispensing prescriptions and clinical pharmacy duties. * 1 in 5 late nights until 7pm * 1 in 6 weekend days WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We are searching for flexible individuals that are welcome to change. We have a strong commitment to developing pharmacist independent prescribers. As a department we have a strong commitment to continuing professional development and training. The post-holder will have the opportunity to undertake further study (e.g. MSc) in either clinical or management qualifications. You will be supported by an established Medicines Management Service, a team of specialist pharmacists and an experienced lead care group pharmacist in each area. WHAT YOU'LL DO 1. Provide a clinical pharmacy service to the area that you have been assigned, with the opportunity to specialise and develop the service to your chosen speciality. 2. Support the Senior Care Group Pharmacist 3. Undertake project work 4. Have the opportunity to supervise, teach and mentor the rotational band 6 and pre-registration pharmacists 5. The 9 month rotations available are: Medicine You will be given the opportunity to work in one of the following specialities; respiratory, gastro/hep, elderly care or AMU. Responsibilities will vary depending on which area you are assigned but will include supporting ward rounds and attending multidisciplinary team meetings. Neurology UHS is a tertiary referral centre for neurology and provides dedicated services to neurology, neuropsychology, neurophysiology and neurosurgery Surgery You will be expected to provide ward cover to a specific surgical area, (e.g. maxillo-facial, lower/upper Gastrointestinal). You will be given the opportunity to attend morning ward round, attend a microbiology multidisciplinary ward round, undertake and audit and perhaps contribute to writing guidelines. You will be expected to provide support to the pre-registration pharmacists. There will also be the opportunity to get involved with formulary applications and other budgetary matters. Critical Care You will spend time working with the consultant pharmacist and attending ward rounds. You will be on the General, Cardiac and Neuro intensive care units and working alongside the team of pharmacists. Cardiovascular & Thoracics Working as part of the cardiovascular and thoracic care group pharmacy team you will gain experience in a variety of areas including cardiology, cardiac surgery, thoracic and vascular surgery and congenital heart disease. You will also have the opportunity to provide teaching to various health professionals, undertake audit and guideline development Microbiology. This offers the opportunity to work closely with two consultant pharmacists with a national reputation, as well as our experienced teacher practitioner. The rotation includes one-to-one training with infection experts and participation in antibiotic stewardship activities including: microbiology and infectious diseases ward rounds; guideline-writing; teaching; surveillance of prescribing and resistance trends; as well as audit & feedback. Band 7 pharmacists typically carry out an audit or research project and present results at a national infection conference during the microbiology rotation. Orthopaedics Work closely alongside the trauma, elective and orthogeriatric medical teams to provide pharmaceutical care to orthopaedic patients on admission, throughout their stay in hospital and on discharge. Your role will involve liaising with the medical teams to ensure accurate and appropriate medicines reconciliation and prescribing during admission. You will work together with the orthopaedic team to proactively prepare discharge prescriptions to enable patient flow from theatre, the emergency department and critical care. Oncology You will have the opportunity to work within a dedicated oncology pharmacy with a team of pharmacists and technicians. Here you will be involved in all stages of the process from the initial screening of the prescription to checking the final item. Your role will also involve providing ward cover to one of our specialist oncology wards.
