Scrum Master

Job Overview Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Scrum Master to oversee multiple Agile teams made up of Developers and QA Analysts. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Scrum process is running smoothly for your teams as they work to deliver software applications that revolutionize the global business of insurance. You will responsible for monitoring the progress and development of the team's career progression through participation in code reviews, ensuring coding standards are followed, and evaluating the progress and results of the development efforts. You will be responsible for clearly communicating the current business goals and the tracking of the team's progress towards those goals for the benefit of both the team and the business stakeholders. In this role, there will be the additional responsibility for being an Agile Coach/Scrum Master on one or more teams. RESPONSIBILITIES * Assist Product Owners in coordinating development projects across multiple Agile teams * Ensures knowledge transfer between teams * Providing feedback to team members on career progression * Provides upper management support and data as necessary to ensure appropriate messaging to strategic clients * Gather necessary metrics proactively to ensure trending and data analysis activities can be supported as necessary * Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving. * Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution whilst getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work * Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information * Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example * Promote good Agile engineering practices (XP, TDD/BDD, continuous integration etc.) * Ensures the effective development of staff (skills coaching, career guidance, appraisal, reward recommendations) and advise on longer term planning issues and skills deficits * Participates in the hiring process and participates in Developer placement after the introductory training period QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB * Ideally educated to degree level (BSc or BEng) or equivalent in Computer Science or a related discipline * 3+ years of experience as Scrum Master or Team Lead on a software development team including experience coaching and mentoring the team in Agile practices * 3+ years of hands-on programming experience with a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory * Additional knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Lean, etc. a plus * Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, or Agile Games * Experience applying a wide variety of well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc). * C# and SQL development experience a plus * Excellent communication and mentoring skills WHO WE ARE * LEADING GLOBAL PROVIDER OF CLOUD-BASED INSURANCE SOFTWARE - Applied Systems develops the top two Insurance Agency/Broker Management software products in the world.
