Solicitor - Generation, Permanent, Barnwood, Competitive plus excellent benefits Closing date: Sunday 21st June The Opportunity Here at EDF, we are seeking a commercially-minded, pro-active and confident solicitor who is in the early part of, or may still be developing, their career and would enjoy growing their skills with a unique and rewarding in-house commercial workload. The Legal function is a strategic function critical to developing and managing the overall EDF Energy business. It forms part of the Governance and Legal Affairs group, led by the General Counsel (Joe Souto), and is one of the corporate functions within EDF Energy. Located in Barnwood, the Generation Legal team comprises ten lawyers with a range of areas of expertise. The Legal team comprises both home grown talent and lawyers with either a City or regional private practice background, from both leading UK and global law firms. The team provides specialist legal support to the whole of the Generation business (the business unit that is responsible for operating all eight nuclear power stations, as well as coal and gas assets). The team provides advice to the business on everything from complex contracts and commercial advice, health / safety / environmental and other industry regulatory matters to key European and international legislation. Day to day you will: * Provide timely, risk informed and commercially relevant legal advice to the Generation business unit on commercial, contractual, statutory and regulatory issues. * Work closely with Business Partners within the Generation business to understand their objectives and business drivers and to identify current and future legal requirements. * Draft and participate in the negotiation of contracts under appropriate supervision. * Develop and deliver training courses appropriate for the business and for other solicitors as required. * Help, monitor and advise on future legislative changes that may impact the business. Members of the Generation Legal team commute from a diverse range of locations including Bristol, Cheltenham, and villages in the Cotswolds. The nature of the role is to work as part of the Generation Legal team to provide a pro-active and commercially relevant legal service to the Generation business. The Person * Credible -Establish credibility within the business unit with a variety of stakeholders. * Communicative - Effectively communicate complex legal concepts, both verbally and in writing as well as present information to a range of audiences. * Flexible - Willingness to develop knowledge and skills in different areas of law and to provide support to other teams. * Organised - Organised and methodical approach, working under pressure to meet deadlines and work on several projects concurrently. * Attention to detail - you will demonstrate both attention to detail and the ability to set legal advice in the context of an established, commercial, operational business. The Skills * Qualified solicitor admitted in England and Wales or equivalent. The Generation Legal team would welcome any level of post-qualification experience, from newly qualified lawyers to lawyers with several years' experience but those in the earlier to mid-part of their career may find the most value in the work and development opportunities available. * Interest in delivering a pro-active, business focused service that anticipates risks and prevents commercial impacts. * Possesses (appropriate to the level of PQE) solid, well rounded legal knowledge and drafting skills in commercial, contractual and / or regulatory law. * Able to work both independently, where appropriate, and under the supervision of a more senior lawyer where required. * Able to use MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint and other commonly used IT to an intermediate level.
