Job Description
As our Picture Researcher you will support the Picture & Multimedia Editor and will be responsible for spotting breaking picture stories ahead of the competition for the DS brand (site and social). This includes (but is not limited to): pictures, video, GIFs, Memes, galleries, artwork etc. Working alongside the P&MME you will ensure the efficient supply of visual content for the Digital Spy team and maintains an impressive visual quality of the brand, on all platforms. The picture department supports the editorial team by sourcing, researching and creating engaging/interesting and sharable images and video for all DS output. You will be expected to continuously contribute ideas for new formats that add value to content. Responsibilities: * Respond quickly to picture requests from the editorial team including finding unique visual angles and observations that advance the story * Constantly checking picture agencies and photographer's sites to ensure we are on top of the news picture agenda * Researching images and video for breaking entertainment and celebrity news * Work collaboratively with the editorial team to create high-quality, engaging and narrative imagery for features * Sourcing, obtaining and posting images from social media accounts before the competition * Obtaining copyright licenses for images and videos * Stepping up in the absence of the P&MME and assuming all duties * Creating evergreen galleries for DS and their partner sites * Establish and maintain good relationships with entertainment picture agencies and contributors and negotiate excellent rates for pictures and video usage on the site and social media * Develop a deep understanding of the brand's audience in order to create the most traffic driving and engaging visual content as possible Requirements: * A passion for visuals, video and entertainment * Sharp news judgement and commitment to breaking visual news stories and progressing existing stories * Knowledge of soaps, big US TV dramas, UK TV, reality TV and big movie franchises such as Marvel / Star Wars / DC, as well as showbiz * Good understanding of copyright law * Ability to react quickly and find unique visual angles * Socially-savvy across Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook and emerging social networks * Ability to generate and translate ideas and concepts into first class visual stories * Flexible working patterns including early shifts Please note that the recruitment for this role is currently on hold however we are still super keen to hear from you if you are looking for the next step in your career, as we are actively pipelining talent in this area of the business.
