Working at NTT Data Centre Technician Position Overview: The role of the Data Centre Technician is to ensure all work activities carried out at the Data Centre are in line with existing procedures and meet current standards. These activities will include, but not be limited to, assisting and supporting other Data Centre Technicians in carrying out their duties, supporting internal teams when carrying out troubleshooting or installation work or responding to queries and supporting local and multinational companies in completing customer requests. They will be responsible for adhering to predefined requirements, following project plans and carrying out quality assurance checks prior to project completion. Working together with 3rd parties and project managers to ensure installations meet with customer requirements from both a visual and functional requirement, while adhering to existing standards and industry best practices. Maintaining and contributing to the security of information held by NTT systems, process controls, customer information held or accessed in course of performing the role. An element of this role is to support our Data Centre Technician team providing cover as and when required, to maintain 24x7 operations. All communication is carried out in English and local language, where appropriate This role will require travel to data centres within region and will include support for other EU regions in support of other initiatives as and when required. Key Responsibilities: As a Data Centre Technician key responsibilities include: Install and maintain servers as our customers' demands change; Respond, action and resolve requests / faults logged both internally and externally; Racking of switches, load balancers, firewalls, servers and storage arrays; Installation and configuration of software on servers; Providing assistance to the Data Centre based team as well other engineering groups when carrying out troubleshooting activities; Carrying out scheduled and impromptu remote hands requests; Active monitoring of all hardware; Data Centre reporting (power, fault lights, etc.); Work with the Deployment Team in configuring customer solutions; Support the Engineering Team in testing new Operating Systems and hardware; General housekeeping to maintain a clean and tidy environment; Escalation of faults and issues to various internal teams, dependant on the type of fault/issue; Work closely with 3rd party service providers; Be a point of contact for customers and assist with escorting and resolving issues related to their co-location environment; Where appropriate Inclusion in on call and shift rotas; Maintaining existing asset management systems; Ensuring cable installations are carried out according to existing standards. Maintaining and contributing to the security of information held by NTT systems, process controls, customer information held or accessed in course of performing the role. Travel between various Data Centres, both nationally and internationally, as and when required. Experience, Skills and Qualifications: Essential Ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment; Experience in troubleshooting and installing operating systems; Experience in working with network hardware; Experience in working with copper and fibre cabling; Working in an customer focused environment; Familiarity with computer systems and a good understanding of networking; Excellent technical skills covering assembly, installation and configuration, where applicable; Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise within tight time constraints; Working in line with best practice in complex environments; Ability to effectively communicate in local language and English, if different; Management of effective and timely problem resolution. Desirable Initial understanding of customers systems and response times based upon information held for each customer; Ability to adapt and influence in a rapidly changing environment; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to develop and build relationships.
