The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Medical Records Tech in a medical facility having a wide variety of medical specialties where records reflect many diagnoses and treatments. In that capacity, provides quality review and analysis of a wide range of patient medical records, maintaining records in accordance with accepted medical and legal standards. Recruitment is limited ONLY to the local commuting area of Lakenheath * This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program * Disclosure of Political Appointments ### Qualifications OPM Qualification Standards: Medical Records Technician Series, 0675 and Group Coverage Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing work that includes applying processes, steps, methods, and established procedures; complying with regulations and standards; analyzing, reviewing, and correcting discrepancies in patient medical records; determining best alternative to resolve inquiries or issues; maintaining and retrieving data for internal and external auditors; searching and collecting data in support of special studies or projects; training medical records staff and volunteers on proper procedures of record management. **OR EDUCATION:** Applicants must have successfully completed 4 years above high school obtained from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university (must provide copy of transcripts at time of application). **OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:** Applicants must have a combination of qualifying specialized experience and education that when combined total at least 100 percent (must provide transcripts at time of application). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of an extensive body of well-established rules, procedures, regulations, principles and operations covering patient medical records, their required contents, establishment and maintenance of special registries, documentation of incidents, and diagnostic coding requirements and procedures. 2. Skill in gathering required data and preparing related reports. 3. Ability to use a computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to enter data or process information. 4. Ability to analyze medical records, collect and organize pertinent data for special purpose studies, determine medical and legal sufficiency of the record, and determine eligibility for release of information. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ### Education IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is y
