Job Description
Python Developer - Genomics London To build on the success of the 100,000 Genomes Project, the Government tasked NHS England with support from Genomics England to launch a new NHS Genomic Medicine Service comprising a National Genomic Test Directory where 300,000 tests have been re-profiled and whole genome sequencing will be available for direct healthcare. Genomics England has been asked to prepare a plan for up to 5 million genomic tests over the next 5 years. The post holder is an experienced Python/ Django developer responsible for creating web applications and utilising software engineering skills to develop tools for genomic interpretation. Key Requirements: *Proven track record of developing high quality applications/systems with web services *Solid experience of Python and Django framework *Competent at designing and coding APIs, specifically working with RESTful APIs *Experienced with distributed systems *Solid exposure to Linux, Git, Postgres (or similar) *Proficiency in collaborative development tools such as Github, Confluence and JIRA *Experience of working on greenfield projects is desirable *A demonstrable ability to cope under pressure and deliver to deadlines *Ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team *Willingness to assume workload commensurate with this post *Flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues *Ability to work independently and to show initiative within a team *Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands. *Ability to work well in a team following agile practices *Strong adherence to and understanding of working to technical / architectural governance *Experience working in a larger technical team following continuous integration and supporting best practice *Good understanding of testing including unit, system, integration, performance security, functional and non-functional Key Accountabilities: *Develops services for: oInterpreting genomes oTracking and distributing interpretation requests oGenerating knowledgebases from the interpretation outcomes *Produces high quality code *Liaises with internal and external parties to determine platform requirements.
