The Role Principal Systems Engineer As Principal Systems Engineer, you will report directly to the CTO with an initial focus on rebuilding our infrastructure as code and establishing robust technical incident management processes. You will work closely with the CTO to develop the strategy for production infrastructure, corporate IT. You will architect and develop the systems and processes required to roll out Infrastructure-as-Code. You will work closely with the Engineering team, enabling them to make changes to infrastructure at an appropriate level of abstraction. As the first hire within your craft, you will drive best practice and make time to support the wider Engineering team in growing their skills in this craft. You will own production operations and technical incident management. You will collaborate with the team to define SLO/SLAs for stability, security, performance, and other system qualities. You will implement technical business continuity & disaster recovery procedures and assist the Engineering team in root cause analysis of production errors. You will also nurture key relationships in Client Support, Information Security Management, Head of Engineering, People Operations and strategic 3rd Party Vendors. This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to try it all again with a clean slate and a team that is eager to learn from them. Skills and Experience We firmly believe that no-one is the finished article and that there should be learning in every role you do. So some of the role will be learning as you go, and we hope thats exactly what you are looking for. However, some experience in the following is important for the role: ESSENTIAL: * Experience designing, operating and troubleshooting globally distributed AWS systems in a 24x7 production environment * Experience as a senior on-call engineer * Experience with declarative IaC frameworks like Terraform/Chef/Ansible * Deep level understanding of monitoring and managing scaling SaaS solutions * Experience managing infrastructure releases, maintenance, installation, upgrades, patches and tuning * Excellent understanding of cloud security DESIRED: * Experience working with containers and container orchestration platforms * Experience rolling out modern observability platforms for logging, APM and platform telemetry * Relevant AWS certifications e.g. SysOps Admin or Solution Architect * Knowledge of modern data processing techniques and systems * Desire to grow and build a team The Opportunity You will be joining an exceptionally talented core team who in the last three years have secured incredible investors, partners, clients, and advocates.
