Consultant in Neurology

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ,
Norwich, Norfolk

Overview

Job Description

Exciting developments are happening in Neuroscience at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH); come and join us now and be a part of our plan to become a Neuroscience Centre. We have integrated stroke and neurology into a Neurosciences unit as we work towards achieving closer regional networking and as we push the boundaries and develop new services. We have already begun with the appointment of a consultant with expertise in monitoring deep brain stimulation implanted patients. Their appointment to NNUH has resulted in patients being able to receive this service locally, without needing to travel to London or Cambridge. We invite applications for a full time (10PA) Neurology Consultant to replace a retiring colleague. The post is predominantly a general neurology post. A subspecialty interest in headache and Botulinum toxin injections would be an advantage, but not a requirement. Why Neurology at NNUH? We are confident that within 2 years we will not only be a leading Neuroscience centre but we will also be able to introduce Thrombectomy to our service as our brand-new Interventional Radiology Unit nears completion. These developments include in-reach from neurosurgeons from the region. This will vastly improve the level of service we offer to our patients and will allow for all treatment, including any rehabilitation to be completed on site. This is model which we have seen work across the Trust as we are already a recognised specialist acute hospital. Our aspirations are to replicate NNUH's latest leading Clinical Research Unit, the Quadram Institute for Biosciences. Based on site at the hospital, the Quadram Institute is not only home to Europe's largest Endoscopy Suite, but is also a combined centre for science research and continued learning. Unlike inner-city hospitals we have the physical space for new projects like this to flourish and are working towards a realistic goal of the Neurosciences Unit incorporating neurosurgery and for Norwich to be a leader in the field. Our further achievements to date include: * A motor neuron disease care and research centre of excellence with a dedicated MND care co-ordinator. * Established links to the UEA with current research taking place in cognitive neuroscience Why NNUH? Norwich is home to our beautiful, purpose built hospital which is the 6th largest Acute Trust in the UK. Located on the same site as Norwich Research Park and next to world renowned University of East Anglia (UEA), we are a teaching hospital with a strong focus around career development Why Norwich? In Norwich a staggering 77% of people say they love their job. Although less than 2 hours from London and serviced by excellent transport links , Norwich is one of few UK cities that still retain a strong local identity and with that a strong sense of community - people walk down the street and say hello to each other, baristas remember our coffee order, you get to know about interesting local projects. This strong sense of self along with excellent shopping, eating out, affordable house prices and excellent schooling is why Norwich has been ranked by the Guardian as the best city to work in. Don't take our word for it - Neurology Service Director, Godwin Mamutse chose to accept at Role at NNUH after experiencing Norwich hospitality first hand. "Arriving in Norwich for the interview visit, I approached a bus driver to ask for directions to the bus to a B&B I had booked. After being invited to take a seat at the back of the bus, I feared that I had been forgotten about when the driver took off with the now full bus. A few hundred metres further on, the driver parked at a stop, beckoned me over and walked with me to a corner to show me where to get my bus. I have since encountered many equally friendly people in job role and cannot imagine any better place to work and live. A safe environment to bring kids up in, good schools, large open spaces, a beautiful city and a beautiful coast line than an hour's drive away are but a few of many extra attractions". Wish you were here? So do we..... Applications are invited for a Consultant post in our Neurosciences Centre at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
