Job Description
The Role Business Services Apprenticeships: 5 Posts, Levels 2 & 3 Hackney Council's award-winning apprenticeship programme has been designed to create quality opportunities for Hackney residents and school leavers. All of our apprenticeships last at least 13 months and combine paid work, training, and study towards a recognised qualification in a relevant subject. As an apprentice with us, you will earn at least the London Living Wage, and get a package of support including additional learning and development, and help to progress into a job or further apprenticeship. Over two thirds of our apprentices stay with Hackney Council. We are looking for candidates who have passion and enthusiasm, reliability, good organisation skills, a desire to deliver a high quality service for Hackney residents, the ability to form good working relationships with others and a commitment to undertaking a qualification. We are recruiting five apprentices to work in business service support roles. This includes Customer Services, Business Administration, Payroll Administration, and Finance/Accounts. These are all vital roles to help ensure the Council functions effectively and provides a good service for our residents. You will learn transferable skills relevant to a huge number of careers across the public and private sector. You will spend 20% of your time working towards your qualification or taking part in training and development activities, with the remaining time spent gaining work-based experience. Customer Service Apprentice - 2 Posts Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 Qualification, 14 Months You will learn to deliver a high quality customer service across all channels including telephone, web and face to face. This will involve listening to our customers' needs, resolving their enquiries, and responding promptly and positively in a helpful and courteous manner. In this apprenticeship you will also be supporting our digital strategy, monitoring and tracking discussion topics and page analytics via social media. Executive Support Apprentice - 1 Post Business Administrator Level 3 Qualification, 18 Months To apply, you must already have achieved English and Maths GCSE at C/4 or above (or an equivalent Level 2 qualification). About Us This is an apprenticeship within the Executive Support Team. You will play a key role as part of a team providing outstanding administrative and executive support to directors across the Council. This will involve learning to provide personal administrative support, including diary management, inbox monitoring and producing correspondence on behalf of individual directors. Corporate Payments Apprentice - 1 Post Accounts/Finance Assistant Level 2 Qualification, 18 Months You will have a key role in matching invoiced amounts against commitments, processing invoices for payment, and being the initial point of contact for dealing with internal and external enquiries regarding supplier payments. You will learn how to check supplier statements, liaise with suppliers to resolve payment queries and you'll gain experience with financial software. Payroll Administrator Apprentice - 1 Post Payroll Administrator Level 3 Qualification, 18 Months This is an apprenticeship within the Payroll department, who are responsible for paying over 7000 staff who work for the London Borough of Hackney, and also administer the pension schemes for employees. You will learn the basics of payroll, including how to calculate Tax, National Insurance and Statutory payments, as well as how to deal with payroll queries. A further part of the role will be to help with the administration of documents such as P45s, P60s and other types of payroll data. Eligibility: There is no upper age limit for our apprenticeships , but we encourage applications from 16-24 year olds, particularly for our Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships. You must be 16 by 1 September 2020. For all apprenticeships in the UK you must meet both of the following conditions: - You must hold a British or European Economic Area (EEA) passport or have permission from the UK government to live in the UK - Have been ordinarily resident in the UK or an EEA country for at least the last three years To be eligible for a Hackney Council Apprenticeship, you must be able to prove that at least one of the following criteria apply to you: - You are a current resident of the London Borough of Hackney - You are a current student at a Hackney education institution (school, college, university, PRU/alternative provision, Adult Learning provision) - You are a former student at a Hackney secondary education institution and completed at least one GCSE or equivalent Level 2 qualification there - You are a current or former recipient of Hackney leaving care services.
