United Kingdom - Hertfordshire, St Albans Job Summary We are looking to recruit a Principal Consultant into the Urban Space team of our Transport Planning Business in either the St Albans (Hertfordshire) or London Aldgate offices. This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of micro-simulation projects for a wide variety of clients. As a Principal Consultant, you will report to an Associate Director within a collaborative team and open office environment. A key part of this role is winning and delivering work as well as providing leadership, mentorship and technical advice for junior team members and you will need to have experience of traffic modelling and transport planning. AECOM has a wide range of multi-disciplinary teams, a global reach and diversified market penetration. Our clients include national and local transport authorities, major sporting events, private developers, and international clients. We develop and use some of the most sophisticated transport modelling techniques in a range of specialist software and offer a comprehensive internal training programme to encourage professional and technical development. The successful Principal Consultant will join a growing Transport Planning team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including Transport for London, Highways England, HS2, and London Boroughs including Ealing, Sutton, and Wandsworth. Job Duties As a Principal Consultant, you will be an important member of our Transport Planning and Modelling team in the South East. You will specify and manage transport planning projects and programmes, act as the face of AECOM with clients, providing advice and support and exploring business opportunities. You will lead workstreams within projects with limited supervision, ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently. You will also contribute to the production and delivery of larger proposals and bids related to our market area from time to time and lead on smaller proposals and bids. Minimum Requirements + Extensive knowledge of traffic microsimulation modelling software, preferably Vissim + Familiarity with TfL MAP and WebTAG guidance, and in-depth experience of significant model development + Extensive data analysis and processing skills + Relevant BSc/MSc/BEng Civil Engineering or Transport planning degree + Use of other junction modelling software such as LinSig and TRANSYT + Experience and understanding of traffic engineering and junction design principals + Experience of line management and small to medium team management + Supervision of workload and support to junior staff + Client contact and liaison without supervision + Leadership in producing reports to a high technical standard + Passionate about delivering high quality modelling projects for our clients. + Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills. + Experience of presenting to project teams + Willingness to challenge in a positive and engaging manner. + Keen to work as part of a team and to develop and progress career development. + Experienced in managing, motivating and developing a project team. + Experience of managing in-house project finances. + Takes responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of all staff. Preferred Qualifications + Experience and understanding of other transport modelling software including one or more of SATURN, AIMSUN, Paramics, CUBE, EMME, VISUM, LEGION + Project management (delivering medium or large transport planning projects including traffic modelling to quality, time, and budget) + Business development and proposal preparation + VBA or Python experience + MS Access + Involvement with broader business development activity and raising of the company's profile + Post-graduate qualifications + Membership or working towards membership of a chartered professional institution such as CIHT, TPS, CILT or ICE Your benefits will include: Helping our employees achieve a healthy work-life balance is important to us.
