ERM is an environmental business consultancy with a strong international presence and employs approximately 5,500 people in 150 offices worldwide. This position is based in London but may involve travel to other international offices. The culture at ERM is hardworking, very team-oriented and geographically diverse. ERM consultants undertake projects that are very deadline orientated and there is follow on pressure on Group IT Services to ensure that systems operate efficiently and are reliable and keep track with the emerging business opportunities for ERM Job Overview: The IT Technical Architect owns the development, maintenance and governance of the IT Technical architecture across the organization. In conjunction with the Lead Enterprise Architect and the Solutions Architects, this individual is also responsible for defining the IT Technical Roadmap and Technical architecture review process, and for leading the integration of those processes with related IT processes such as the Architecture Governance board and the Change Advisory Board Scope of Activities: * Lead the creation or evolution of the IT Technical Architecture, and the translation into a Technology roadmap within the enterprise architecture function/program. * Understand, advocate and support the enterprise's IT strategies. * Lead analysis of the current IT Technical environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement. * Lead analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the ERM Technology roadmap and enterprise architecture. * With the Lead Architect, facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide IT Technology decision making and engage with the ERM business and IT project teams to define solutions in line with the Technical Roadmap * Lead the development of an technology implementation plan based on the Enterprise Architecture, ERM business requirements and IT strategies. * Oversee EA implementation and ongoing refinement activities. * Consult with project teams to fit projects to the Technical Architecture and Roadmap, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the Technical architecture and roadmap to accommodate project needs. * Consult with infrastructure development project teams to fit infrastructure changes to the Technical architecture and roadmap, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the technical architecture to accommodate infrastructure needs. * Identify organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the ongoing development and operational management of the technical architecture. * Oversee the documentation of all technical architecture design and analysis work. Skills and Credentials: * Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, systems analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience. * Seven to 10 years of experience in at least two IT disciplines (such as technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations) in a multi-tier environment * Familiarity with basic information management practices. * Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments, including Cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure * Good interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation. * Ability to perform a lead role with the virtual teams that will be responsible for implementing the Technology roadmap * Excellent analytical and technical skills. * Good written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions. * Ability to translate business needs into IT Technical requirements. * Ability to understand the financial impact of IT Technical alternatives. * Ability to apply multiple solutions to business problems. * Ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
