Overview
Your new role: Nigel Wright have been appointed jointly by North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue to recruit 2 Senior Accountants on a permanent basis. The 2 Senior Accountant roles will lead the Finance teams and ensure the effective day-to-day running of the finance functions, based at their headquarters in Northallerton. This is an exciting time to join the two organisations and will allow the successful candidate to lead/develop a competent team and influence internal and external stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibility for Capital accounting. Responsibility for pension fund and IAS19 accounting. Supporting the delivery of Financial Management through the development and implementation of effective strategies, action plans, policies and procedures and performance management processes. Supporting the production and monitoring of the Authority's Annual Budget and Medium-Term Financial Plan. Deliver training to Budget Holders to enable effective budget management and use of resources. Reviewing specialist financial advice to corporate projects and business planning providing information with interpretation e.g cost modelling and trend analysis. Representing the finance function at meetings and Governance Groups. Ensuring the professional development of the Finance team, including recruitment, selection and performance management. Ensuring robust financial systems and processes are in place. Contributing to financial strategy and decision-making processes. Managing, mentoring and motivating the team. Overseeing the year-end preparation of the annual Statutory Accounts. Managing the audit process and liaising with external personnel. Overseeing the production of regulatory compliance returns, maintaining the asset register and investment decision making and cashflow forecasting. As the ideal candidate you will: Be qualified; CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA or ACA. A clear understanding of IFRS knowledge would be advantageous. Excellent communicator with both internal and external customers at all levels. Be experienced in managing, developing and motivating staff. Have experience of preparing financial reports for Budget Holders and Senior Management. Have the ability to understand and explain complex financial information. Have experience of developing and improving of financial monitoring systems including management of the change in processes. Be experienced in preparing statutory financial statements, with a good knowledge of technical legislation and codes of practice. Have advanced Excel and Microsoft knowledge.
