Overview

Do the job that’s like no other. Do something real. Do the job that helps keep nearly nine million Londoners safe. The challenges of policing London are unlike anywhere else and so are the opportunities and rewards. As a police officer in London’s Met, you will join around 30,000 fellow officers, working across 32 boroughs - each the size of a small city. You’ll get to help people at their lowest point, to protect the vulnerable and help deliver the justice they deserve. You’ll be proactive - preventing crime before it happens and catching criminals before they strike - all the time acting with the integrity that fosters people’s trust. You’ll be encouraged to be the best you can be, and rewarded with the satisfaction that you are making a real difference to our great city. Do the job that will teach you more about yourself than you ever imagined. You might not think you can do it now but after some of the best police training in the world, you’ll be ready for whatever London presents, discovering what you’re capable of along the way. Your training will give you the skills and confidence to deal with all kinds of situations, from diffusing an argument with some well-chosen words, to gaining the trust of a young person by taking the time to talk, and more importantly, listen to them. You’ll learn to assess every situation and how to keep people and each other safe. You’ll be supported every step of the way and will patrol alongside more experienced colleagues, using and developing your skills each and every day. Do the job that can turn into hundreds of career paths. The Met is the UK’s largest police service and once you’ve completed your two-year probationary period, a wealth of opportunities will open up to you. You could go on to become a detective, an authorised firearms officer or a public order specialist dealing with huge events and demonstrations. You could work with our dogs and horses, become a cyber crime investigator or support victims of domestic abuse. Whatever your interests, there are so many options and ultimately it will be up to you to steer your own career path - the only limit will be your ambition. Do the job that welcomes diversity and brings communities together . London thrives as a great global city and we believe that the Met should reflect the communities it serves. Which is why we’re looking for people from all backgrounds to join us, people who can earn trust, respect and build positive relationships with all kinds of Londoners. We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential. Do the job that comes with great rewards. You’ll start with a salary package of circa £30k, inclusive of allowances and free London travel, rising up to circa £46K. You will also have access to a range of other benefits including discounted rail travel up to 70 miles. Apply now to Do Something Real.
