Optical Scientist / Engineer The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electro- Optical/ Infrared Materials Scientist to join a leading Global Defence Technology & Security organisation. You will work within the Applied Sciences & Products business unit, based at their site in Hampshire. Responsibilities You will be a part of the Electro-optic Sciences team within Applied Science and be actively involved in developing bespoke solutions for novel applications across the breadth of QinetiQ's business. Your responsibilities will include: • Deliver technical tasks relating to EO/IR materials and devices - and EO/IR measurements in line with contracted activity. This will include; hands on development of prototype materials, laboratory and field measurements with EO/IR sensors. • Managing facilities and laboratories containing unique and high value equipment. • Work across a variety of internal and external programmes. • Be accountable for managing your own time and technical progress in order to meet agreed goals and deadlines. Requirements & Essential Qualifications • Appropriate scientific qualifications, for example degree level physics or chemistry (BSc/ MChem / MPhys) or similar. • Experience of research programmes involving materials testing and trials. • Experience of writing technical reports and technical record keeping is desirable • Experience working with optical and/or infrared measurement instrumentation. • Experience of applied laboratory work/ formulation of materials and coatings. • Experience of Mat lab or other industry modelling or data visualisation packages would be beneficial. Security Clearance You will be a UK national. If successful, you will be put through Ministry of Defence security clearance procedures.
