Operations Manager - Sittingbourne Biffa is the UK's leading integrated waste management company providing collection, recycling, treatment, disposal and technologically driven energy generation services. You will be working as part of a team, with up to 90 staff collecting from 64,000 properties. This role is a key one for the portfolio and offers an excellent opportunity for career development. JOB PURPOSE The role holder, reporting directly to the Business Manager, will be responsible for managing the supervisors and their teams and overseeing the overall efficient and effective delivery of the Depot's daily street cleansing and collections operations. Working in a unionised environment, ensuring exceptionally high levels of customer service are always maintained, whilst delivering on the Contract's KPIs, including health & safety and compliance, and supporting the achievement of the Company's balanced business plans. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1 Ensure that the Supervisors and work teams deliver on all the service requirements of the Contract. 2 Constantly review the operations to ensure that efficiency levels are continuously improved upon, bringing value-added performance to the overall Contract. 3 Work with the Business Manager to develop and implement innovative new and/or additional services for the Client, the Council generally and to external businesses, which continuously improve on the financial performance of the Contract. 4 Ensure that all Company policies and procedures and legal obligations are understood and adhered to by all members of staff. 5 Work with suppliers to maximise the benefit of service delivery versus cost. 6 Management of the SIT meetings in the depot and ensure these are held on a monthly basis or as otherwise required by Company procedures. 7 Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the Client and internal/external customers. Attend Client/customer meetings as required. Ensure that all reports required as part of the Contract are delivered in time for meetings and any follow up actions are completed timely. 8 Ensure all records and systems are maintained for the effective and compliant operation of the Contract. 9 Work with the Business Manager to ensure that all financial/ budgeted targets are achieved for the Contract including but not limited to overtime, staff numbers and revenue. 10 Minimise the use of agency staff and hire vehicles by ensuring that the Supervisors control holidays, manage sickness and share resources as required across the Partnership contracts . 11 Deputise for the Business Manager in their absence. 12 Carry out any other such reasonable job related tasks as the Company may require you to undertake from time to time. NATURE AND SCOPE Education / Qualifications Minimum GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English IT literate - comfortable using business software and systems and Microsoft Office Suite Degree International CPC COTC Experience Waste Management background People and health & safety management in a unionised environment, including training, coaching, disciplinaries, grievances, recruitment, etc Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPI's Experience of vehicle management - CPC, tachos, Road Transport Directive Ability to analyse and manipulate data Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational service led environment. Experience of producing and analysing reports using Microsoft Office Suite and internal IT systems Technical Knowledge Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical service environment Waste industry knowledge including relevant laws General knowledge of environmental responsibilities and existing health and safety legislation Working knowledge of CRM system Local geographical knowledge Skills and Behaviours Excellent planning skills Ability to influence and persuade people Ability to deal with conflict and negotiate / manage the appropriate outcome.
