The Role We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Process Control Technologist, who will be responsible for providing process control and advanced process control upkeep and development support to a specific production unit. The role holder will support control related projects being implemented on that production unit to improve reliability, safety, quality and margin capture. In addition to the standard APC Technologist role above, they will work closely with the APC Team Leader to deliver advanced process control (SMOC) and real time optimisation (GDOT) CAPEX projects across site. Additional accountabilities of the role will include (but are not limited to): Provide specialist input to the vision and overall strategy for process control and advanced process control Provide an effective process control, advanced process control and real-time applications support service in areas of responsibility, including monitoring existing applications, troubleshooting process control problems, initiating, economically justifying, developing and implementing (both in Honeywell DCS & in APC software) process control related projects Optimise the deployment of process control applications in areas of responsibility Maintain an up to date knowledge of current and new process control technologies (including hands on configuration skills) Ensure optimal utilisation of external expertise provided by service providers, by maintaining an overview of the service requests and service provision as it relates to the process control engineering discipline Authorise process control/safeguarding changes on Plant Change Requests Work closely with Aspen-Apex (& APC Team Leader) to deliver GDOT real time optimisation and advanced process control CAPEX projects across site and within a short period of time be able to work independently with Aspen-Apex to deliver projects both technically and commercially. Act as primary deputy to APC Team Leader About You Our ideal candidate must have Degree in Chemical or Electrical engineering (M.Eng Hons 2:1 minimum) from a university with a high level of advanced control engineering in the syllabus. In addition, they must have extensive previous experience in the refining or petrochemical industry, the majority of which is in an APC role, and ideally having achieved Chartered Status or working towards it. You must have demonstrable, previous experience developing, implementing in the DCS and maintaining complex process control schemes (for example compressor surge/capacity and furnace controls). You will provide demonstrable examples of where you have independently identified APC opportunities (both model based predictive control and inferential estimators), justified them to management, developed and implemented them (including all configuration work in DCS/APC Server) and subsequently maintained them. Previous line management experience would be preferred, but is not essential, as would experience of working with commercial teams to set up contracts with APC vendors for the implementation and maintenance of APC/RTO software and applications. The individual will need to be a confident self-starter, with strong communication skills and highly computer literate. They will need to be able to work within a team and individually and able to adapt a flexible approach to deal with a range of project work and day to day tasks efficiently.
