Positions: Immigration and Asylum Caseworker & Casework Supervisor Salary: Caseworker - £20,000 - £30,000 & Casework Supervisor - £37,000 (Dependent on experience) Benefits: Life insurance, Private medical/dental insurance, Flexible working hours, Generous Contributory Pension, Flexible working hours, Education reimbursement, Income Protection Hours: Full-time, Permanent Location: Description: Our clients are a team of dedicated, experienced and passionate UK immigration and asylum lawyers; with 18 offices across the country. Essential : Candidates must have OISC at level 1, 2 or 3 OR IAAS Level 2 Immigration & Asylum Caseworker The role holder will undertake casework and manage a specific caseload up to level of competence/accreditation in relation to Immigration and or Asylum and Detention matters. This may include asylum cases, immigration applications, appeals and judicial reviews. This is a challenging role suited to an ambitious Caseworker with excellent client care and interpersonal skills. Key Functions: Represent clients before immigration judges, in person or in writing as required, including preparation of cases. Draft witness statements, skeleton arguments, representations and other complex documents and letters using word-processor. Preparation and management of applications to the Home Office. Ensure all contact with the client and any other action taken in respect of cases is recorded on attendance notes and regularly updated on the database. Liaise with Immigration Authorities, other agencies, and groups as required. Interview and advise clients regarding Immigration law, procedure, and practice. Provide guidance to clients on completion of documents. Attend clients in prison and detention centres and surgeries on occasions where appropriate. Meet specified casework and other targets as set by Supervisor. Keep up-to-date at all time with changes in Immigration/Asylum law by reading, attending training events and using a computer for reference purposes. Complete any other records in connection with casework to meet company requirements, maintain statistics and update the Database, client files, using manual or computerised systems. Skills: Fully accredited to OISC level 1 or 2 or Fully Accredited to Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme Level 2 and registered at OISC level 3.12-month minimum experience of working in the immigration sector to OISC or IAAS standards. Excellent drafting skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills. A confident and determined approach. A high degree of self-motivation and drive. Ability to work to strict deadlines. Be organised and methodical in your approach. Candidates with IAAS accreditation will be considered. LLB or Law related degree/diploma. Casework Supervisor Management: Manage staff in the regional office(s) for which responsibility is given, including: annual appraisals, casework, forensic advocacy supervision in accordance with the (OISC), Legal Aid Agency, Legal Policy Guidelines, Client Employment Handbook, ongoing assessment, training, disciplinary and grievance procedures and all other line-management functions. Review decisions taken by caseworkers and paralegals in relation to their legal performance. Operational: To undertake casework and manage a caseload up to the necessary level of competence/registration/accreditation. Represent clients before Immigration Judges, in person, or in writing as required including preparation of cases. Provide advice and representation to clients held at any Immigration Detention Centres or Prisons. Interview and advise clients regarding immigration/asylum law, procedure and practice. Provide guidance to clients on completion Draft witness statements, skeleton arguments, representations and other complex documents. Essential LLB or Law related degree/diploma/equivalent Accredited to IAAS Level 2 and Supervisor Level. To demonstrate compliance with the Supervisory Standard as Specified by the Legal Aid Agency in the (SUPP) MM form Desirable Registered at OISC Level 3 Experience Minimum of 1 years' experience of managing and supervising staff in a legal environment Minimum of 2 years' full-time experience of immigration and asylum legal advice and representation covering all heads of policy under the Immigration Rules Experience of representing clients at immigration/asylum appeals Working knowledge of immigration/asylum law and practise Skills Ability to manage and motivate team members Professional communication skills both written and oral Proven interpersonal skills Sensitivity to other cultures and issues raised by immigration/ asylum matters Ability to self-service and IT skills - and use of database If you are interested in either of the above roles please submit your CV for consideration.
