UK Biobank have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Project Technician to join their growing team in Stockport. Job Title: Laboratory Project Technician Location: Stockport Salary: £21,269 increasing to £22,307 upon completion of training Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Hours: Monday to Sunday - 38.5 hours per week 5 shifts per week Laboratory Project Technician – The Organisation: UK Biobank is a major national health resource set up with the aim of improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of serious and life-threatening illnesses. Between 2006 and 2010, UK Biobank recruited over 500,000 volunteers from across the country to take part; all donated biological samples for future analysis, provided detailed information about themselves, and agreed to have their health followed. Enhancement projects are now underway to add further value to the resource. UK Biobank was established with the backing of a number of major funding bodies and is a registered charity. Whilst we are physically headquartered in Cheadle, direction and strategy take input from senior academics and other experts from across the UK and around the world. Laboratory Project Technician – The Role: UK Biobank is looking to recruit a Laboratory Project Technician (LPT) on a permanent basis to join the core Laboratory Project (LP) Team. This is an exciting time to join the organisation, with a rise in researcher’s requesting access to samples and/or data from the resource. The core laboratory team supports all laboratory projects at UK Biobank including, but not limited to current and future sample enhancement projects, processing of samples for researcher access requests, method/process development for pilot laboratory projects, maintenance of laboratory and storage equipment, user acceptance testing of new laboratory processes, troubleshooting, development of standard operating procedures (SOP), laboratory staff training and auditing. The LPT will work closely alongside the Laboratory Supervisors, Laboratory Project Officers, Senior Project Manager, Project Manager, Laboratory Quality and Training Officer and Laboratory Manager to maintain and improve laboratory processes and to assist in project set-up, implementation and operation. Laboratory Project Technician – Essential Criteria: - You must have a BSc in a relevant scientific life sciences area - Previous experience of working in a laboratory - Proficient user of Microsoft Word and Excel - Ability to work and think methodically - Excellent attention to detail - Pro-active attitude - Ability to manage own workload and prioritise tasks - Enjoys working in a versatile team Laboratory Project Technician – Desirable Criteria: - Experience of working in a laboratory flexibly across multiple projects/assays - Experience of using automated liquid handling systems - Experience of extracting DNA/normalisation - Experience of shipping biological samples - Experience of document review / writing laboratory documents - Experience of training/mentoring others - Experience of auditing - Experience of maintaining laboratory equipment - Trained in ISO17025/ISO9001/ISO27001 auditing - Full clean UK driving licence To submit your CV for this exciting opportunity, please click ‘Apply’ today.
