About us We are undergoing a significant period of change when it comes to Children's Social Work. Our new ‘Newham Together’ systemic practice model will adopt a restorative approach, focusing on building relationships with families and each other. We know that the new social workers we bring in will be key to the future of our services. In 2020 Newham will once again be partnering with Frontline in educating prospective social workers. This involves creating a pod of Frontline students who learn about social work while undertaking casework alongside colleagues. Newham has had success with this partnership before and a number of existing social workers have been through Frontline, or know colleagues who gained their qualification through this process. This post will be directly employed by the London Borough of Newham however will work very closely with the Frontline programme. About the Job Consultant Social Worker £42,681 to £45,585 pa plus a £5000 pa market supplement 12 months Fixed Term Frontline is an intensive social work qualifying programme which offers people the opportunity to train on the job as child protection social workers. Participants on the programme work in units of four, which are managed by a Consultant Social Worker. What is a Consultant Social Worker? Consultant Social Workers (CSWs) are vital to the Frontline model. Each CSW is responsible for four participants who are undertaking their Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work. CSWs work with participants using a unit model approach – a systemic practice model for working with families, with cases managed through weekly unit meetings. These meetings provide a dynamic learning environment and a reflective space to think systemically about the cases in your unit. The role offers those who wish to remain in practice the opportunity to do so alongside the chance to take on supervisory and management responsibility for a small team. About You The Consultant Social Worker role requires you to work systemically with families and co-ordinate the work of Frontline participants to develop them into outstanding social workers who will affect positive change for children. The post requires individuals who are skilled practitioners. You will have experience of building productive relationships with children and families, managing risk effectively and working with complexity. You will therefore have a proven track record in improving outcomes for families and children. You will use this experience, knowledge and skill to support the participants to learn and develop over the year. The role requires a high level of professionalism and organisational skill. Importantly, Newham and Frontline are looking for individuals who want to see change to social work practice and education, and who are dedicated to achieving this. The link will take you through a step by step process of how to set up the software as well as giving you tips on how to prepare. You will be asked 5 questions and given between 1 and 2 minutes to record each answer. There is also some time to think through and plan your answer. The video recording will then be sent to us for shortlisting. You must submit your application and complete the video assessment no later than 09:00 on Monday 6 April. Additional Information Selection process: Shortlisted candidates are invited to an assessment day where you have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills in different contexts. We have found traditional interviews alone do not always give candidates the best opportunity to demonstrate all their skills but our assessment days have been designed to give you the chance to show us all your strengths in a range of different activities. The assessment day consists of: - a panel interview - a written activity - a listening activity - a role play activity The assessment day will be held at Newham Dockside (E16 2QU) on Monday 13 April 2020.
