Overview

Family Placement Social Worker (6051) BSFG is looking for a full time qualified and experienced Social Worker to join our busy team in Academy Park, Pollokshields, for a fixed term of approximately one year. We are seeking a committed professional with a sound knowledge of fostering legislation and practice issues. You will be involved in the recruitment, training and supervision of Foster Carers within the Glasgow service. As a qualified and registered Social Worker, you will have experience of family placement work and preferably experience of foster care practice, including the assessment of potential foster carers. A good knowledge of fostering regulations, child care law and safeguarding issues is essential. You will have excellent communication skills and a personal commitment to high quality practice. You will be a team player, with the ability to work flexibly. As well as managing your caseload, you will be part of a duty rota within normal office hours and the “on call” rota out of office hours. A Social Work qualification and registration with the Scottish Social Services Council are essential. Addendum to Job Description Barnardo's Scotland Fostering Glasgow is approximately 24 years old and has a well-deserved reputation for high quality foster placements. The majority of our children and young people are currently placed permanently but the service also offers placements on a 'same day' basis and external short breaks. The service currently supports about 80 children and young people living with our foster families and is expected to achieve growth whilst maintaining our reputation for support, careful matching and placement stability. The Glasgow service has an experienced children's work team providing a range of therapeutic supports to children in placement ensuring we achieve the very best outcomes for children and young people. Services include an Art Therapist and Child Psychotherapist. We also provide a comprehensive range of staff and Carer training, and Carer support groups. BSFG is looking for a committed professional with a sound knowledge of fostering legislation and practice issues to join our Fostering Team on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave. You will be involved in the recruitment, training and supervision of Foster Carers within the Glasgow service. As a qualified and registered social worker, you will have experience of family placement work and preferably experience of foster care practice, including the assessment of potential foster carers. A good knowledge of fostering regulations, child care law and safeguarding issues is essential. You will have excellent communication skills and a commitment to high quality practice. You will be a team player, a good communicator and a skilled and self-motivated professional, with the ability to work flexibly. As well as managing your caseload, you will be part of a duty rota within normal office hours and the “on call” out of office hours. You will have a strong commitment to promoting and safeguarding the wellbeing of children, but you will also have an appreciation of the demands that come with working for a high quality voluntary fostering service in an increasingly competitive environment.
