Overview

Are you looking for your next challenge to deliver a varied, complex and high value caseload, within conveyancing, landlord & tenant and property law? We are looking for a confident and adaptable qualified solicitor, FILEX or Licenced Conveyancer, to join the Legal Division’s Place Team, providing a conveyancing, landlord & tenant and property law based service to the Council and associated bodies to support their property portfolios and delivery of property based projects. Your approachability and capacity to build relationships is key, as you will be a point of contact for service departments, responding to requests for advice and assistance from internal colleagues and external stakeholders. The Legal Division’s operational structure comprises 27 officers ranging from solicitors, legal officers and support staff arranged across two teams, People and Place. What You Will Be Doing Day to Day as A Conveyancing Legal Officer: - Drafting, negotiating and completing contracts for the sale (by private treaty, by tender and by auction) of land and buildings, including minor developments, residential and commercial freehold and leasehold - Reviewing, negotiating and completing contracts for the acquisition of land and buildings. Leases of commercial and industrial premises and land, licences to assign and sublet, variations and renewals. - Negotiating, drafting and completing a wide variety of legal documents including deeds of variation, residential and business tenancy agreements, licences, surrenders and assignment of leases, deeds of easement, deeds of rectification deeds of modification, deeds of release of covenants, transfers of public open space, registration of title, registration and release of legal charges. - Providing legal advice to officers in relation to specific transactions and advising and providing support to senior fee earners and multi-disciplinary teams in relation the delivery of major projects. - Responding to general land and property matters, including advice and enquiries, advice and guidance to departments as required. Liaise with external professionals regarding conveyancing and property matters as required - Assist in reviewing and implementing practices and procedures to support effective service delivery. - Account for and reconcile income/expenditure in respect of conveyancing and property matters in accordance with Financial Regulations. You will have: - A qualification as a Solicitor or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives or Licenced Conveyancer - Experience in undertaking a broad range of conveyancing, landlord & tenant transactions and general property work, including commercial and high value transactions either in local government or within a similar commercial role - A sound knowledge and understanding of the law and practice relevant to the specific role. - Well-developed interpersonal skills for persuading, influencing, building relationships and communicating effectively. - Good literacy and report writing skills and an ability to co-ordinate and deliver documentation to tight timetables. - An ability to interpret complex instructions and provide solutions and recommendations to achieve appropriate outcomes in a timely manner. - The necessary motivation and pragmatism to work on your own initiative, but also as part of a close team to deliver agreed approaches/strategies to ensure efficient and effective progress on cases.
